00:00We're at the American University of Sharjah at the Community Services Department and what
00:09we're doing here is having the Toy Stories workshop.
00:12We get around 50 to 60 AUS volunteers coming in per day for this workshop and the output
00:19for the workshop is around 100 toys which we give out internationally to different areas.
00:24So the toys from this workshop, this particular workshop, are going to Nepal, they're going
00:29to a school and to an orphanage in Nepal.
00:31Okay, there are two kinds of people that come to register.
00:34There's people who have made a toy before and people who are like completely new, beginners.
00:39So for the beginners, they come in, they're like, I want to make a toy but I don't know
00:43how to stitch.
00:44So the first thing we do is tell them that you don't need any experience and then we
00:48point them towards the patterns that are easier to make, like the moon or a cloud or something.
00:53So we give them a pattern here, ask them to register a name, ID, what toy they're making
00:58and then we point them towards the desk that has all the cloth.
01:00Now we give them complete freedom as to what colours they want to use and things like that.
01:05After that, they go on to a table where volunteers are always making their rounds and teaching
01:10them exactly how to stitch and what procedures are involved in stitching and how they need
01:15to flip the toy and add stuffing, etc.
01:17So it's a complete procedure, like from start to end, we're always with them.
01:22The idea of making toys for kids there is actually pretty awesome.
01:30My friend told me about it and she dragged me here but thankfully she did.
01:37It's a nice feeling and it's fun.
01:40I'm really happy that I managed to finish this toy because I spent a lot of time working
01:44on it and I hope that whoever receives it in Nepal is going to really enjoy it.
01:51I know that a lot of children in Nepal obviously live in poverty and I hope that this can brighten
01:58up their day and make them a little bit happier.
02:00I'm very glad that Toy Stories was a very, very successful initiative, that every time
02:05we have a workshop, many volunteers would come.
02:08So people get very creative with what toys they want to make and that's mainly what we
02:13encourage.
02:14We want to make colourful, nice, fun toys.
02:15Here we have, for example, the flash sign.
02:19We have many different patterns, flowers, hearts.
02:23We've made these toys with a lot of love and care and the volunteers have worked very hard
02:30in making these.
02:31As you can see, they're very well done and very nice.
02:33And hopefully these will make the orphans' days much better and much happier.
02:39It makes me happy.
02:41The thought that when a kid would receive this, would actually have a smile on his face
02:49or her face.
02:50Here's the Batman for you, I hope you like it.
02:55The three-day workshop witnessed over 100 volunteers and hundreds of finished toys,
03:00with many others to be continued in upcoming workshops.
03:04Volunteers are already looking forward to their upcoming experience.
