00:00Good day. Welcome to the Gulf News update for Thursday, April 6. Here are the top stories
00:06at this hour.
00:07US President Donald Trump has denounced the latest chemical weapons attack in Syria as
00:12an affront to humanity and warned it would not be tolerated. Speaking alongside Jordan's
00:17King Abdullah at a White House news conference, Trump did not lay out in any detail how the
00:23United States would respond to the killings, which are widely believed to have been perpetrated
00:28by the regime.
00:30Donald Trump removed his chief strategist, Steve Bannon, from the National Security Council
00:35on Wednesday, reversing his controversial decision early this year to give a political
00:40adviser an unprecedented role in security discussions. Vice President Mike Pence said
00:45Bannon would continue to play an important role in policy and played down the shake-up
00:50as routine.
00:51Rather than pay up employee housing allowances in one go, many companies in the Y are spreading
00:57it out in monthly installments. For tenants, it has become another useful tool in their
01:02negotiations with landlords to bring down rental payments, according to the first-quarter
01:07update on the property market from Cavendish Maxwell. The number of landlords offering
01:11flexibility to pay annual rent through multiple checks has increased, according to the firm.
01:17Aung San Suu Kyi has denied security forces have carried out ethnic cleansing of Rohingya
01:22Muslims in Myanmar. She was speaking to the BBC after the UN Rights Council agreed to
01:27investigate allegations of rape, murder and torture against the army. Rights groups say
01:33hundreds of the stateless group were killed in a month-long army crackdown following deadly
01:38attacks on Myanmar border police posts. Almost 75,000 Rohingya have fled to neighbouring
01:44Bangladesh where they have related grisly accounts of army abuse. Myanmar's de facto
01:50leader Suu Kyi has not spoken out in defence of the persecuted minority. She has also not
01:55condemned the crackdown.
01:57Three Hollywood influential experts landed in the UAE this week to explore the possibility
02:02of film corporation partnerships between the UAE and Hollywood, and to promote a programme
02:07that connects filmmakers from around the world with leading US entertainment professionals.
02:12UAE is a very robust player in the region in terms of content creation, so it was important
02:18for us to include it," Jennifer Kushner, Director of Artist Development, Film Independent, said.
02:24And finally, the weather. Today's high across the UAE will be 34 degrees Celsius, dropping
02:29to 26 degrees at night.
02:31That's all for now. Thanks for watching. A reminder that our next bulletin will be on
