00:00Good day. Welcome to the Gulf News Update for Thursday, January 4. Here are the top
00:06stories at this hour.
00:08Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on former top adviser Steve Bannon. The US president
00:13was responding to a new book that portrays him as someone who didn't actually want
00:17to win the White House. Bannon also called Trump's son's contact with a Russian lawyer
00:22treasonous.
00:23Hitting back via a formal White House statement, Trump insisted Bannon had little to do with
00:28his victorious campaign. When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind,
00:33Trump said.
00:35Jumeirah Willett Circle and Dubai South recorded the highest number of off-plan transactions
00:40among the city's freehold communities last year. JBC figured in 2,161 deals, followed
00:46by the fast-developing Dubai South enclave, which did 2,095. For ready properties, Dubai
00:52Marina retained its prime position.
00:54Cannes Film Festival organisers say Australian actress Cate Blanchett will head the jury
00:59this year. A two-time Academy Award winner, the 48-year-old Blanchett follows Spanish
01:05director Pedro Almodovar, who headed the 70th edition of the festival last year. The Cannes
01:11Film Festival will take place from May 8 to 19.
01:15And finally, the weather. Today's high across the UAE will be 23 degrees Celsius, dropping
01:20to 18 degrees at night.
