00:00Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:04Now through the next few days remaining cold overnight. Tonight we still have an
00:08easterly drift bringing more clouds across eastern counties. Eventually this
00:13easterly wind will veer around towards more of a southeasterly, even so an
00:18undercut of cold air will continue before fronts come in from the southwest.
00:22For the time being you can see holes in the clouds, starry skies across western
00:27Scotland. A few fleeting drizzly showers moving in on that breeze from the North
00:32Sea. Elsewhere it's mostly dry although for Shetland you'll see some showers
00:37later on in the night. Temperatures then close to freezing if not below. It's a
00:41cold start to the day come Thursday morning biting in that breeze towards
00:45the east. There will be some sunshine around though particularly across the
00:48western side of Scotland. Some holes in the cloud towards the northwest of
00:52England, Wales down towards the West Country. Generally though the cloud will
00:56be thick. The odd spot or two of drizzly rain can't be ruled out and some
01:00showers extend down towards Orkney as well as Caithness. The winds will be
01:03lighter through tomorrow although picking up towards the southwest where
01:07we'll see more cloud later on. Temperatures then coming in below
01:11average for this time of year four to seven degrees Celsius. So that's the
01:15picture through tomorrow afternoon. Through tomorrow evening and overnight
01:19yet again we'll see a frost where we see cloud breaks. Cloud and rain will move in
01:24across the West Country clipping the southwest of Wales and into Northern
01:28Ireland through Friday. On its leading edge there could be some snow
01:31particularly over the high ground. Even a little freezing rain it does tend to
01:34weaken and stall though but that's not the end of the story. Through the
01:38weekend further weather fronts will attempt to push in from the Atlantic. The
01:43winds will pick up a little bit but as that rain bumps into the cold air
01:46there's always a chance of some sleet and snow on its leading edge. Temporary
01:50for some and also the risk even of some freezing rain. So stay tuned to the
01:55forecast. Warnings could be issued associated with the weather through the
01:59weekend and yes still remaining cold particularly across central and eastern
02:03areas and there will be a lot of cloud around with rain towards more western
02:07areas. Wintry on its leading edge as I said. Take care, I'll see you again soon.
