00:00Welcome to the next edition of Court and Crime with our crime reporter Ali Alshouk and the
00:08top story, the story that you can see on gulfnews.com and our own social media channels is the fact
00:14that the case of the missing parents of the boy found in the mall in Dubai has been solved
00:22and Ali here has the details.
00:24Yes, Dubai police recently they solved the mystery of the missing boy that was found
00:30at outside a reef mall in Muraqabat area.
00:33Dubai police, they got the boy on September 6th, on September 7th they asked the public
00:40to help them to identify the boy and to know who's his parents.
00:43So the boy later after a couple of days he was transferred to Dubai Foundation of Women
00:49and Children to look after him and to provide shelter and food until they identified the
00:54parents.
00:55Dubai police today they said that they managed to identify the woman who actually brought
01:02him and handed him over to Dubai police.
01:07The whole story started five years ago when the mother of the child she delivered her
01:12baby, the boy, and after two days she left to her home country.
01:16She left the boy to be raised by her friend with the promise that she will come back later
01:21but the friend kept waiting the biological mother for five years and the mom didn't return
01:26back.
01:27So the boy was raised by the friend for five years.
01:30Finally, she was advised by another woman that she need to give the baby to another
01:38woman in Dubai.
01:39So she delivered the baby to another woman in Dubai.
01:42The second woman she was raising the boy for also some time.
01:46Then because the boy need to have medical care, to be enrolled in education and this
01:52kind of stuff so she also couldn't.
01:55So a friend of her advised her that she fabricate a story that she found the boy wandering alone
02:01outside the mall and she handed him over to Muraqabat police station which is actually
02:05what she did.
02:07So Dubai police they said after just 90 minutes of the news was circulating all around about
02:13the missing boy, somebody called Dubai police.
02:17He identified the boy and he claimed that he saw him with his mom in Sharjah.
02:22So in cooperation with Sharjah police, they summoned the woman who raised the boy for
02:28five years and she explained what's happened.
02:31The thing is the mysterious took more than 12 days because Dubai police investigation
02:37and they made DNA test for the four women involved in this case to see who is the mother
02:44of the boy.
02:45The four women they are actually who raised the boy.
02:48The biological mother, she is outside the country and Dubai police is still investigating
02:53with that.
02:54For the moment the boy he is in the Dubai foundation of women and children waiting for
03:00what's the next step will be because the four women are also transferred to Dubai public
03:05prosecution to finish the investigation because they were looking after the baby for five
03:11years.
03:12The boy has no IDs, nothing and he didn't join a school or anything.
03:17It's really a sad story.
03:19Yeah, it's quite tragic actually.
03:25The other story is a relatively earlier case which is about the Omani bus driver.
03:31Yes, the Omani bus driver.
03:33I think everybody remember the Omani bus driver who crashed to the height where he
03:36killed 17 people and injured 13 others.
03:39It's happened on June this year.
03:41Today there was a session at Dubai court of appeal where defense lawyers actually claimed
03:46that there was different errors that contributed in this accident.
03:52It's not only the driver mistake.
03:53The defense lawyer told the judges today that they made a report from a road expert to identify
04:01what kind of problems that was on that stretch of road.
04:06Defense lawyer claimed that the warning board and the height barrier, the distance was only
04:1212 meters.
04:13The lawyers claimed for safety it should be at least 48 meters.
04:17So they're claiming that their client, the Omani driver, it's not his full mistake of
04:21the accident.
04:22There are other elements that contributed in this accident.
04:28They requested an independent expert or committee to examine the road and to provide a report
04:34to the court to identify the responsibility.
04:39It's either on the road or the driver.
04:41So they asked the judges and the case has been delayed to October 10th to see the request
04:49of the lawyers.
04:50The driver, he was originally sentenced to seven years in jail and he was ordered to
04:54pay 3.4 million dirhams, blood money fine, earlier by Dubai traffic court.
05:00But the driver lawyers appealed and it's now at Dubai court of appeal.
05:07So again, another case that we are tracking and we'll be following up and you can find
05:12it on the website to see the background and the stories that came earlier.
05:16Final story today that we have is a bit of a strange story.
05:24It's about a violent divorced couple.
05:27Yes.
05:28Yeah.
05:29It's a story that came this week to Dubai court of first incidents.
05:32It's involving a couple who've been divorced.
05:37So a woman, she's, she's from Morocco.
05:41She went to the workplace of her former husband.
05:44She sat beside him on the car and suddenly she just like put a knife on his throat.
05:49She threatening him.
05:50She issued death threats to him in order to return private pictures to her.
05:56So she assaulted her former husband.
05:58And so the husband also assaulted his ex-wife and he insulted her also.
06:05So it was a mutual assault between both of them.
06:07And that's the case against them right now.
06:09Yes.
06:10So the ex-wife, she has an additional charge, which is, I want to talk about it.
06:15She flashed her middle finger to the husband in public, which is a serious offense in the
06:20UAE.
06:21I mean, flashing a middle finger, it's might be normal for some cultures and for some countries,
06:27but in the UAE, if you flash your middle finger, it's an offense.
06:31It's this, it's considered as a, it could get you deported.
06:34Exactly.
06:35According to the law, you can be deported if you flash your middle finger, because sometimes
06:39we hear or we see drivers who are angry or pissed off from someone.
06:43So you flash a middle finger, you think it's okay, it's not an insult, but it's a crucial
06:47insult.
06:48According to the UAE law, the person can be deported just if he flashed his middle finger
06:53in public.
06:54Yes.
06:55And speaking of which, there seems to be an increased amount of road rage and lowering
07:00road safety.
07:01So again, drive safe, stay safe and control your anger.
07:06Yes.
07:07And on that positive note, we end today's installment.
07:11Definitely log on again next week as Ali will have more stories lined up for us.
07:14Thank you very much for joining us.
