00:00Hello, everyone. This is Anjana Kumar. I'm a senior web reporter with Gulf News and I'm
00:05here to talk to the owners of Mina Jewelers. Now, Mina Jewelers is a massive jewelry brand
00:10in the UAE and we are here to speak to the owners to understand their journey and how
00:15they achieved the massive success that they have done. So, thank you so much for speaking
00:21to us. So, tell us about how the name Mina came about. Where did the name come from?
00:29My mother's name is Mina and we have a few stores in Hyderabad in her name, Mina Bazaar,
00:34Mina Jewelers. So, we carried the same name. But luckily, we were quite lucky. Many people
00:39were telling us this name has come because this lane also was called Mina Bazaar. So,
00:44it quite clicked also that. For tourists, it was very easy for them to remember Mina
00:48Jewelers, Mina Bazaar. That's quite interesting. So, is your prize more competitive than the
00:53other jewelry brands? Yeah, definitely, yes. Definitely, yes. Because we are directly the
00:58owners and we could take the direct decisions for all the things. So, the cost of handling,
01:03the purchasing is very reasonable than the others. Others, big brands, it goes from the
01:08head office to branch office and all that. But we have directly sourced it ourselves.
01:14And where do you source these jewelry pieces from? The factories or the factories, yeah.
01:22We know that gold prices are set. So, the only way that you make your margins is with
01:27the making charges. And how do you keep your cost low? The more important, the variety
01:31and after service also. Because for us, we don't say, we always see the customer as should
01:37be happy. This is the only thing we have done. We want the customers, whether we make money
01:41or not, we want the customers to be happy. So, if they want an exchange or something,
01:47because I remember a few cases when the boys used to buy for his wife, his wife was quite
01:51fat and the benedicts did not come. They came and returned after six months and still we
01:55Yeah, that's so interesting because your success a lot has to do with the support that you
02:00have received from the UAE government. So, please tell us about that. How much has the
02:04UAE supported in your growth? Dubai has given us a lot of things, a lot of benefits and
02:09this country has given us a lot of facilities. Thanks to this, we really, really, really
02:14thank His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid that because of him only, because the whole
02:20journey was quite easy. The police security, the Emirates airline and when we came in 1993-1994
02:27was the first year of shopping festival. So, because of shopping festival also our business
02:32grew and every day by day we could see new things in Dubai. We are blessed to be in Dubai.
02:38So, there you go. This is the interesting story of the owners of Mina Jewellers. We hope you
02:44enjoyed it. For the full story, please log on to www.gulfnews.com. You can get the entire story
