00:00Philippine Skating Union President Nikki Cheng gave an assessment

00:04on the performance of Filipino-American short-track speed skater Peter Grosclose

00:10in the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China.

00:13And my teammate, Daryl Oclares, will be the judge.

00:19At the age of 17, the Filipino-American short-track speed skater Peter Grosclose

00:25competed in the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China.

00:29Even though he did not win the medal,

00:31Grosclose's performance was still impressive

00:35after he reached the semifinals of the men's 1500m race

00:39and the quarterfinals for the men's 500m and 1000m.

00:44According to the Philippine Skating Union President Nikki Cheng,

00:47this is just the beginning for Grosclose,

00:50especially since he is just a junior in the Seniors Division.

00:55For this Asian Winter Games, he was the youngest out of all competitors.

00:58So Peter is only 17, while the second-to-the-youngest is 22.

01:02And so he is up against seniors, he is up against Olympic medalists.

01:06His performance was as expected.

01:08And for me, the result was as expected.

01:11So since he is still playing junior, he qualified midway.

01:17Cheng added that the Asian Winter Games is a good exposure for Grosclose,

01:22especially since he is following the Olympic qualifying tournaments this year.

01:27It was a great experience for him and also a learning experience

01:32because of course he would understand what he needs to do for himself,

01:37what he needs to improve on in order to get to that level.

01:40So we're very happy about the results for Peter

01:43and the experience of this Asian Winter Games is definitely a stepping stone for him

01:49in the next Olympic qualifying events that he has for this year.

01:54Grosclose is expected to attend the four International Skating Union

01:59or ISU Short Track World Tour that will serve as Special Olympic Qualifying Classifications

02:04for the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
