00:00Yes, it was a great match. Led by Rajasthan's great Joss Butler.
00:14Hello, everyone. Welcome to Straight Bad with Gulf News and Mr Cricket UAE. That is Anish Sadan.
00:19We are here to discuss the IPL match where Rajasthan Royals beat Delhi Capitals by 15 runs.
00:27And what a match it turned out to be. Both the teams scoring over 200 runs.
00:31I will let Anish summarize the match for us.
00:34Hi, Shyam. Hello, Mr Gautam. And hello, Mr Ram Ganesh. Congratulations on the win.
00:40And hello to all the beautiful people of Gulf News. Yes, it was a great match
00:45led by Rajasthan's great Joss Butler. And they dominated the match, probably all 40 overs.
00:52Just in the end, probably a little childish behavior by Rishabh Pant took the gloss of it.
00:57But I'm afraid this behavior of Pant should not go under the radar.
01:02Somebody from the BCCI or somebody having the power should probably send out a message by
01:08either giving a one-match ban or a two-match ban for behaving like this and taking the game.
01:12Because this is not a football match or a Ranji Trophy match. You are playing an IPL match where
01:16the whole world follows. And he's supposed to be a future captain of India, setting a bad example.
01:22Thank you, Anish. And we have with us the Rajasthan Royals fan who is wearing
01:28year-to-year green. That is Ram Ganesh. Ram Ganesh, the tone was set by Joss Butler.
01:34I mean, what an innings that was. Tell us about it.
01:39He's been the mainstay of our batting all this while. And I mean, in a way, he's masked the fact
01:43that our middle order hasn't been tested. But what a player. I mean, to get that many consistent
01:49amount of runs, to be that consistent. He reminds me of the Virat Kohli who scored three centuries
01:54or four centuries in one season. So he's been amazing. But what was great to see was also DDP
02:00getting into some form because we needed the second player. We tried Yashaswi. We tried a lot
02:05of options, but it's good to see him getting into form. Sanju coming and finishing the way he did.
02:10I think the batting was phenomenal. I guess it's just the bowling. I think that fifth bowler is
02:16still hurting us. We tried coming in with Obeid McCoy. We tried Riyan Palak in between, which
02:22I don't know why they persist with him. He's a part-timer.
02:27We'll come to that. We'll come to Riyan's bowling.
02:30Yeah, but as batting goes, I think one of the best performances. And as you know,
02:35the highest score in the tournament. So pretty happy with that.
02:39Yeah, Gautam, that is the top three batsmen scoring here. Gautam is our
02:43Senior Associate Editor with Gulf News. I'm sure, Gautam, you might have enjoyed
02:48what an onslaught that was. The openers going all the way to the 15 overs. And then,
02:56like Ram said, Sanju finishing it off. It is a rare thing to see top three batsmen,
03:01the SINIF, figuring in what is the highest score of the tournament so far. So your thoughts, Gautam?
03:09Yes, I mean, whatever praise we shower on Josh Butler, it's simply not enough. I mean,
03:17this is a guy, I don't recall, you know, when did a batsman, when did a batter dominate the
03:23IPL single-handedly like this? Like as Ganesh was saying, possibly that Virat Kohli's phase
03:29in 2016 season. He was just amazing. I mean, he reads the length of the ball so quickly and
03:36squeaky clean hits. He's so decisive. And it was very good to see Debtat Partikar,
03:41you know, he needed that half century. He had been getting a few odd starts here and there.
03:47And the match was over by then, you know, the Delhi bowlers were left demoralized.
03:51I mean, there could be a few odd observations about the bowling changes of Rishabh Pant. He
03:57had a bad day in office, as Anisbhai started at the beginning. And, you know, this 15-run margin,
04:04it, you know, like the previous match of that seven-run margin against KKR, it doesn't sum up
04:09how the match went. I mean, this match, despite Delhi finishing at 2-0-7, they could do that
04:15because of the pyrotechnics by Rovman Powell. Otherwise, you know, Delhi were never really
04:22up to speed today. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, till the last over, they were not really,
04:28really in the game, at no stage, because the asking rate was just climbing something like
04:33something like 90 per over. Yeah. Yeah. Again, you said about Rishabh Pant's captaincy. Anis,
04:42even Samson's captaincy, specifically that one bowling change, the 11th over, where he brought
04:48in Riyan Parag needlessly, especially when they were on the ascendancy. What do you make of that?
04:54I have no idea why he brought in, to be very honest. He had decent bowlers in the hand,
05:00probably because Mokai went for 40 runs in his first two overs, rather. That's the reason maybe
05:05he has brought in. But you got to, he was just trying to slow down the pace, like how Rishabh
05:10Pant brought. But just, you know, I want to talk about the captainship of Rishabh Pant.
05:15This is not the first match that they went on to leak runs. In the couple of match against,
05:20probably, I believe it was against KKR, or one of the teams where they went for a lot of runs
05:25in the earlier games. There also he lost it. And today in the game, if you would see, you know,
05:30Shardul Thakil hurling abuses to his fellow players, Rishabh Pant hurling abuses to his
05:37fellow players is not giving a good sign to a franchise. And today, Ricky Ponting not there
05:42at the crease, rather at the ground because of the COVID precautions he was taking, showed that
05:48how immature these guys are behaving on the field. Watson was literally stopping Pant not to
05:52send somebody and he just sent the assistant cone and like an idiot, that ex-captain of India, I
05:57don't remember his name. He just runs on the field. I mean, what's going on? Are you playing
06:04a gully cricket match? Or are you playing a football match? This is where they had lost the
06:08game while fielding and they showed it by doing this drama off the field. And there would have
06:16been a 10% or probably 5% chance, Robert Paul would have probably hit the sixes.
06:21They took the momentum away. Exactly. In fact, I thought the match was lost there simply because
06:27that allowed Robert McCoy to regain his composure. What do you think of that particular incident, Ram?
06:36Yeah, I mean, I was telling the same thing to my wife that Ashwin was saying or DDP was saying,
06:42is this really happening? Cause I'm seeing one six, two six, three six. And I'm like,
06:46and when I saw that no ball, I mean, I saw the waste of photos. I thought it was a no ball.
06:50So I'm like, oh, it's gone. The game's over. And then, yeah, the call, the call happened and it's
06:55cricket. I mean, umpires make the decision at a split second. So sometimes you got to stick to
07:00that and it is what it is. But then after that, the fact that we, I would have wanted the game
07:05to slow down and Pant did it for us. He stopped the game. He did all his childish antics, calling
07:11them up for Colin. He was calling them back at the start, uh, could be just declaring that,
07:16oh, you know, check for the no ball. And everybody, it was not just, um, I, what I felt was
07:21not, it wasn't just a pun, but even the, even Shane Watson, everybody was like, oh, it's no ball.
07:25It's a no ball. I just felt they miss Ricky Ponting, a senior player to calm them down,
07:31a senior player to actually tell them guys, calm down. This is not how we play cricket.
07:34I guess that was missing and that helped us. So, and then the next ball was, everybody was
07:38obviously high on emotions. The next ball was missed and then it was game over then. But yeah,
07:42it took the scene away from what was a great match. I mean, it was a really good contest
07:46till the end and, and yeah, I'm happy with the win. I'm happy with the way we ended, but yeah,
07:50that was, as Anirudh said, as a future captain of India or a potential future captain,
07:55that's not how we behave. You should be kicked out for two games at least.
07:59Yeah, I'm sure the disciplinary committee will have something to say about that. Let's see if
08:04wait and watch what they will do about it. But like Ram said, it took the scene away from
08:10what was an exciting match and come to think of it, when you look back in a year or two
08:17from now, if you look at, we might remember this ugly incident rather than the
08:22what a wonderful match it was, which is a shame actually. And Gautam, what did you make of
08:28Praveen Amre? Because Praveen Amre, during his playing days, he was a very quiet,
08:33decent gentleman. And it was, I was stunned to see somebody like him rush to the field,
08:38which is totally uncalled for. Did you expect that? No, certainly not. I mean, see, what happened was
08:45and the moment he is visible like that, if there is an inquiry, I mean, there's a chance that
08:52he will be hit the most. Yeah, more than Pant, he will be hit the most.
08:57More than Pant. And Pant, you know, at the first instance, his reaction was to call the team back.
09:03I mean, this is certainly not... It will be a scandal, actually.
09:07It's a scandal. And as Anil Bhai is saying that, you know, there should be at least
09:11one match or too much ban because, you know, I know for a fact that these, you know,
09:16these penalties for slow overheads and all that, and then you know, you have 1 million,
09:232 million penalties, those are taken care of by franchisees.
09:26Absolutely. The franchise owner will pay this.
09:30Right. A financial fine is not the issue. There should be a disciplinary action
09:34with a ban. So we'll see. A message has to go. Gautam, a message has to go so that tomorrow
09:40the Shreyas Iyer or the Virat Kohli or the Rohit Sharma or anybody cannot give this sort of a
09:45message. You are actually trying to dictate or do Dadagiri. I mean, I'm afraid. I use the word
09:51Dadagiri.
09:53This is... Anil Bhai, it is almost like you said earlier,
09:56like it is like a player thinks that he is bigger than the game.
10:02I mean, like I said, it just took away from what has been an exciting match.
10:07But Rajasthan walked to the top of the points table with 10 points. Three teams are with 10
10:12points. But Rajasthan has a superior run rate. So I'm sure, Ram Ganesh, you would be very happy.
10:18And before we wind up, Anil Bhai, let's tell us about the competition.
10:24Oh, yes. Every day you get a chance to predict the winner and walk away with the wonderful
10:31kit, as well as a digital subscription from Gulf News. I know it's tough.
10:35Today, we also felt that it could have gone Delhi's way, Harar's way. But that's the beauty
10:40about this contest. Log on to your favorite page and predict the winner.
10:44Thank you, Anil. And coming back to the predictions again,
10:50you can predict two matches tomorrow. KKR playing, that is, Calcutta Nitride is playing
10:55Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers playing Sunrise Hyderabad. So let us do our predictions.
11:01Anil Bhai, you go first.
11:03Well, the momentum is with Gujarat. KKR is coming on the back of three losses. They must be hurting.
11:08But obviously, you have to go with Gujarat. And the second match, I'll go with Sunrise Hyderabad.
11:14Sunrise Hyderabad, four wins from six matches, whereas RCB,
11:18five wins from seven matches. So it's pretty much even there. Gautam, your pick?
11:24Yes, I think I will give it to KKR this time. I mean, they do this up and down business a bit.
11:30So I think I will keep them marginally ahead in the first game.
11:34Second game, I would go with Royal Challengers Bangalore.
11:39Ram, who do you think you will win tomorrow?
11:42Yeah, I want KKR to win tomorrow. I don't want Gujarat to just run away with it.
11:46But I feel three losses in a row, KKR will be hurting. And they've got some great
11:51people who are still waiting to come to form. So I would say KKR for the first match.
11:55And for the second match, I think RCB also have got... I'm sure Virat Kohli is waiting
11:59to come back into form. They have all the players waiting to come back.
12:02So second match, I would say, will be RCB.
12:05Ram, you are expecting too much. You are waiting for all these players to come back into form.
12:09Yes, it's about time.
12:12Yeah, my picks. I will go with Gujarat simply because their momentum has been with them.
12:18They have five wins out of six and incredible serves.
12:22So you never know. But I would pick Gujarat.
12:26Between RCB and SRH, I have a slight soft corner for RCB.
12:31So I will go with Alex Beck first to place it to repeat what he did in the last match.
12:37So the RCB is my pick.
12:40So KKR is Gautam's pick. And so is Anish Bhai's pick. And Gujarat is mine.
12:48And KKR is your pick as well, is it, Ram?
12:51So three against one. All right.
12:54And second match, Anish Bhai's pick is Hyderabad.
12:58And mine is Royal Challengers. Gautam, what is yours?
13:04Royal Challengers, Bangalore.
13:05Royal Challengers. And Ram, you are also Royal.
13:08So that is VF3 against Anish Bhai's one. All right.
13:12All right. Let's wait and watch what is in store for tomorrow.
13:15Until then, thank you very much for tuning in.
13:18Thank you for being in the show today.
