00:00Our Iftar series continues and we are here in the household of Imam Sugitan.
00:05She is going to tell us and show us actually how Filipino Muslims celebrate Ramadan.
00:11And she is preparing some amazing authentic Filipino dishes for us to taste during Iftar.
00:20So let's go in and see what's happening there.
00:22Ramadan is the most special time for us Muslims and even for us Filipinos and especially for
00:31our family. We are looking forward to that whole year for Ramadan. I know it's fasting and it's
00:38hard but you know there is something very very special about Ramadan where our worship and just
00:44about anything we do we try to make it extra special because we dedicate it to our God.
00:51So and for us as Filipino Muslims we're no different than any other Muslim in the world
00:56may they be Japanese or Pakistani or Indian or Arab we all celebrate and partake of the Iftar
01:04in a very special way. We break the fast with dates and you will see that later on and we
01:13share our special meal with our family. In a Filipino household there's nothing really
01:20specific for Filipinos but we observe just like like I said like everyone else we have to have
01:26dates. For us we have soup and not always but we try to have soup so that it warms the stomach
01:34and today we've made that special dish. It's a very known Filipino dish called Sinigang.
01:40It's soured soup with salmon and particularly salmon head. So the next thing Luchi is going
01:47to cook for us is the beef Filipino version which is called Bistek Tagalog. It's like beef
01:55steak Filipino and well the main difference is it's a little bit thinner. It has lemon.
02:02Normally we put the Philippine lemons but since we don't have it here so we're going to use
02:06regular lemon and we put some onions on it.
