00:00A group of people from the Energy Regulatory Commission accused Meralco of being too stingy with their customers.
00:06They also denied asking for a raise from Meralco even though they have already collected a lot.
00:12We have the first news, Macky Pulido.
00:17On June 2022, when the Energy Regulatory Commission ordered Meralco to raise the distribution charge to P1.35 per kilowatt hour,
00:28including the metering charge and supply charge.
00:31But according to the National Association of Electricity Consumers for Reform or NACICOR,
00:36if you look at the back of the Meralco bill,
00:38Meralco asked for P2.09 for the distribution, P33 for metering and P49 for supply charge.
00:47P1.57 was too much for the ERC.
00:52Multiply that with the energy sales of one year that we got from their website.
00:58In just one year, it came out to P82 billion.
01:06So if we double it, in two years, it will be P164.5 billion.
01:12This means that in Juscel's electric bill, Meralco asked for more than P1,122.
01:19It came from the multiplication of P1.57 that was not overcharged in the 715-kilowatt-hour consumption of electricity.
01:28Food every day, it should go there.
01:33According to NACICOR, this is an illegal move, so it was written in the ERC.
01:39This is a big blow, a big effect on their franchise.
01:44Should people trust you?
01:48The ERC confirmed that P1.35 was ordered by the distribution charge agency, but this is an average rate.
01:56Because of the average rate, the bill will vary depending on the consumption and customer class.
02:01But they are verifying the data to answer the NACICOR letter.
02:05We are still waiting for the statement of Meralco.
02:08For the P1.35 distribution charge of Meralco, they are ready to refund P19 billion.
02:17But the NACICOR group said that even though they were overcharged,
02:20Meralco is still asking for an additional P33 in the distribution charge.
02:26You're already charging P1.35, why are you increasing it to P1.66?
02:33What is this? It's absurd, unreasonable.
02:38The ERC said that the additional petition of Meralco was just filed.
02:42It will be under public hearing and evaluation if it is appropriate.
02:47Meralco's customer, Josel, said that in the petition,
02:50she would like to think of those like her who are always in need of electricity payment.
02:56Trust. They are doing their job well.
02:59It's not a joke.
03:02The people are looking for a living.
03:04Usually, others don't know what's really going on.
03:09This is the first news, Mackie Pulido for GMA Integrated News.
