00:00♪♪
00:24Starting this year, we'll be increasing military sales
00:27to India by many billions of dollars.
00:29We're also paving the way to ultimately provide India
00:32with the F-35 stealth fighters.
00:36In 2017, my administration revived
00:40and reinvigorated the Quad Security Partnership.
00:44In our meeting today, the Prime Minister and I
00:47reaffirmed that strong cooperation
00:49among the United States, India, Australia, and Japan.
00:53And it's crucial, really, to maintaining peace
00:56and prosperity, tranquility, even in the Indo-Pacific.
01:04In addition, the United States and India
01:06will be working together like never before
01:09to confront the threat of radical Islamic terrorism,
01:13a threat all over the world, actually.
01:15Today, I'm pleased to announce that my administration
01:18has approved the extradition of one of the plotters
01:21and one of the very evil people of the world.
01:24And having to do with the horrific
01:282008 Mumbai terrorist attack,
01:33to face justice in India.
01:34So he's going to be going back to India to face justice.
01:42As we deepen our defense partnership,
01:45we'll also strengthen our economic ties
01:47and bring greater fairness and reciprocity
01:50to our trading relationship.
01:52As a signal of good faith, Prime Minister Modi
01:55recently announced the reductions to India's unfair,
02:01very strong tariffs that limit U.S. access
02:04into the Indian market very strongly.
02:06And really, it's a big problem, I must say.
02:09India imposes a 30 to 40 to 60 and even 70% tariff
02:16on so many of the goods,
02:18and in some cases, far more than that.
02:20And as an example, a 70% tariff on U.S. cars
02:23going into India, which makes it pretty much impossible
02:26to sell those cars.
02:28Today, the U.S. trade deficit with India
02:31is almost $100 billion.
02:34And Prime Minister Modi and I have agreed
02:36that we'll begin negotiations to address
02:40the long-running disparities that should have been
02:42taken care of over the last four years,
02:44but they didn't do that.
02:45In the U.S.-India trading relationship,
02:48with the goal of a signing an agreement,
02:52and we want, really, we want a certain level playing field,
02:58which we really think we're entitled to,
03:00and he does also, in fairness,
03:02so we're gonna work on that very hard.
03:04And we can make up the difference very easily
03:06with the deficit, with the sale of oil and gas, LNG.
03:13With the sale of oil and gas, LNG,
03:16of which we have more than anybody in the world.
03:19The Prime Minister and I also reached an important agreement
03:22on energy that will restore the United States
03:25as a leading supplier of oil and gas to India.
03:28It will be, hopefully, their number one supplier.
03:31And the groundbreaking development for U.S. nuclear industry
03:35India is also reforming its laws
03:37to welcome U.S. nuclear technology,
03:39which is at the highest level, into the Indian market.
03:43Under the framework we are announcing today,
03:46the United States and India are also joining forces
03:48to ensure that artificial intelligence
03:51and other advanced technologies are developed
03:54by the two of the most, really,
03:56two of the most advanced nations,
03:59intellectually and otherwise technologically.
04:03Anywhere in the world, there's nobody very much closer.
04:06We have an incredible relationship there,
04:09and this is where it seems to be heading.
04:12And artificial intelligence, complex,
04:15a very complex subject,
04:16but it seems to be where people want to be
04:18and they want to go,
04:19and we're leading right now by a lot.
04:22Don't miss out.
