00:00London Bridge, a historic crossing over the River Thames, has stood in various forms for
00:05nearly 2,000 years. The first bridge was built by the Romans around 50 AD, and over the centuries
00:11many versions have followed, including the famous Medieval Bridge with houses and shops
00:15on it. The current London Bridge, opened in 1973, replaced the 19th century Stone Bridge,
00:21which in the 1960s was sold to an American entrepreneur who famously thought he was buying
00:26Tower Bridge. This confusion led to some amusing headlines, but the bridge was eventually relocated
00:31to Lake Havasu City, Arizona, where it stands today. Meanwhile, the much more ornate Tower
00:36Bridge, with its iconic twin towers and bascule mechanism, remains a beloved symbol of London.
00:41The nearest tube station is London Bridge, which is served by the Jubilee and Northern
00:44Lines, offering convenient access to this historic crossing, often confused, but never
00:49forgotten.
