00:00You had a story and this is what piqued my interest and we talked about this a couple
00:18weeks ago when Matt rule said the unthinkable that they were not and this is coming from
00:22Nebraska which is you know I mean that spring game is one of their biggest deals where they're
00:27not going to do a spring game or at least they're leaning towards not doing it because
00:31of the tampering and he's tired of losing players and now you've got an article coming
00:34out today that essentially said look you've got a lot of folks that are kind of along
00:38that line of thinking.
00:39A little bit about the piece and kind of where are we at right now with where you know how
00:42NIL and with the transfer portal and how it's starting to affect spring football.
00:47Yeah you know last month the FBS coaches had their annual meeting at the ASCA convention
00:53and they decided to vote on a proposal at that time to shrink the portal windows which
00:58is two portal windows now totaling 45 days, one in December, one in April.
01:04Well they decided hey let's do a proposal where we shrink that down to one window in
01:09January for 10 days.
01:11Now they voted unanimously on that.
01:13Now it gets bumped up to the NCAA level and it's got to pass two more committees to even
01:17be put in effect which is probably unlikely at this point because they'll probably fight
01:20back on it.
01:22Unfortunately during those conversations behind closed doors we started hearing some
01:29murmurs about how they were talking about hey maybe we should get rid of spring practices.
01:34Maybe we should move to an OTA, an organized team activities type of format that the NFL
01:39uses.
01:40Maybe move that to June or maybe heck just starting the spring semester give us 30 days
01:46at our choosing between January and June and July to do organized team activities and
01:54give us maybe like 10 days within those 30 days to actually kind of hit and do some full
01:59contact practices and there was a lot of support in that room I'm told based off my sourcing
02:04on this and so here are the last few days.
02:08I reached out to a lot of head coaches, talked to 18 of them to kind of get their feel on
02:12everything and quite a bit of them are in favor of some type of tweak to the spring
02:20calendar and a lot of them really don't like doing the spring games because some of them
02:26believe that it leads to potential roster tampering because their games are on national
02:32television these spring games and most of them get done in late March and other coaches
02:38watch their game and go you know what I really like those two players they have on their
02:41roster we should try and call them see if they'll enter the portal here in two weeks
02:45when this second portal window opens up.
02:48So a lot to consider here but again this is something that's really kind of hammered home
02:54the point that coaches are just really not happy right now with the calendar in the way
03:00it sets up right now for college football.
