00:09and has won a gold medal in the 9th Asian Winter Games.

00:21The Philippines Men's Curling Team has won a gold medal in the 9th Asian Winter Games

00:28in Harbin, China.

00:31Last night, the whole country came together to welcome the proud fans and officials

00:37from the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee.

00:41In their media appearance earlier, they couldn't believe their success,

00:45especially from the number 51 in the world rankings,

00:48the Philippines currently holds the gold medal.

00:51This is an absolute historic win.

00:53We went into the tournament with high ambitions.

00:56We didn't expect to get so far, but we could manage to pull out the gold,

01:02and that's unbelievable.

01:05The impact with the crowd and the friendly people over there, it was such amazing.

01:11It's just amazing. Again, we won the game after the last tournament.

01:17Curling is not yet as popular in the Philippines as chess on ice,

01:22a combination of physical skills and strategy,

01:25where the goal of the opposing team is to move the stones to the target.

01:29There's no curling facility here in the Philippines,

01:32so they're still training in Switzerland.

01:34That's why they're calling for a curling facility here.

01:38We hope that they would learn to love floor curling,

01:42and hopefully that would be the jump-off point for these floor curlers

01:46to become actual ice curlers in the future.

01:49The POC has already filed a courtesy call with Curling Pilipinas in Malacanang.

01:53We really need that financial support to sustain even the developmental stage.

02:02Curling athletes will immediately return to training

02:04as they prepare for the pre-Olympic qualifying event

02:07to continue their fight until the 2026 Winter Olympics.
