As far as first impressions go, Sima Taparia from the hugely popular and controversial Emmy-nominated show 'Indian Matchmaking' streaming on Netflix knew a thing or two about making a striking entrance. The world may recognize her as the sassy Indian matchmaker from Mumbai, brokering arranged marriages and unions on a streaming platform, but beneath that facade, we discovered a whole new side to Sima in Dubai. Not just Sima, the provocative matchmaker, but Sima, the ridiculously intrepid singer.

00:00This is an example to all the ladies, they can do anything at any age.
00:05There is no, I am now old or now I am 50, I cannot do.
00:09Anything you can do it.
00:10Not even 0.0001% is scripted.
00:14We are there, the camera is just following, that's all.
00:17I don't have a single dialogue.
00:19Youngsters are telling, mothers call Seema aunty, after the show they say,
00:23Nahi, we want to do arranged marriage.
00:25Because the concept is changing of the marriage.
00:27First they thought arranged marriage means, it is a force.
00:30Chalo, match, marry him.
00:32No.
00:33Now they give their criteria and I tell 100% you will never get.
00:40Good afternoon, this is Manjusha Radhakrishnan from Gulf News.
00:43I am the entertainment editor and this afternoon,
00:46I have a very interesting subject to interview.
00:49I am going to meet Seema aunty.
00:51Now you all know her as this Indian matchmaker from the hit Netflix show.
00:55It's called The Indian Matchmaking.
00:57And her job essentially is to find potential grooms and brides
01:02for people who want assisted marriages or arranged marriages.
01:06It's a very controversial show, where many people think it's regressive
01:09but there is also huge fan base for it.
01:12So we are going to ask her about the controversies surrounding the show,
01:15what she thinks about love, her most difficult client
01:19and all about why she is in love with her husband of many decades.
01:23What was your childhood like?
01:25Did you see your own parents have a very healthy, wholesome marriage as well?
01:29My dream was actually since childhood,
01:32I wanted love and respect from the world.
01:35That was my vision and it got manifested.
01:38It got late but it got manifested.
01:40I got love and respect and fame, I never worked for fame.
01:43I was passionate, worked hard, I was focused
01:46but fame was the by-product that I got.
01:48I got recognition from the world
01:51and the whole world started identifying me through the show
01:56and I never dreamt that the show will rock and it's amazing in one of its kind.
02:00And they portrayed me as an Indian traditional lady
02:04and I am that in that.
02:06I am giving my Indian values to the world.
02:08You are a risk taker, you don't care about what,
02:11you don't mind criticism, you don't mind praise.
02:14You tell me Manjusha, good and bad criticism, everything.
02:20Whatever you do, there will be good, positive and negatives.
02:23So why should we mind?
02:24We have full right, the world has full right to criticize.
02:27Negative also, positive also.
02:29More the criticism, the show, the song or everything becomes popular.
02:33Any criticism, it becomes because people are watching it
02:37so that things become more popular.
02:39Youngsters are telling, mothers call Seema aunty,
02:42after the show they say, no, we want to do arranged marriage
02:45because the concept is changing of the marriage.
02:47First they thought arranged marriage means, it is a force,
02:50let's go, marry him, no.
02:53Now they give their criteria and I tell 100% you will never get.
02:57You must watch my shows.
02:58Yes, of course, I know it, I know your catchphrases.
03:0130, 60, 70% if you are okay, when you meet your criteria,
03:06while staying together you have to make 100%
03:08because 100% you have never got, nobody has got 100%.
03:12Did you expect the show to be so popular?
03:15Because look at it, we thought the Indians will watch it
03:17because we know what assisted marriage is.
03:19Every non-Indian is watching.
03:21I never dreamt that the show will be so popular.
03:25The show is amazing and one of its kind a reality show
03:29and the world, it has gone viral across the globe
03:33and I have fans over 200 countries of the world.
03:38You name it, you go to any country and just you name it,
03:41every non-Indian is watching the show.
03:44They are loving it.
03:45And why people are loving it?
03:47Seema aunty, you are humble, you are down to earth,
03:50you are sincere, so we love you in the show.
03:53One thing in your show that I thought I have seen season 1 honestly,
03:56so is that you also have a problem with women and men
04:00who start looking for a partner late
04:02and then have a list of demands that's bigger than their age,
04:05more than 40 plus demands.
04:07You keep telling them, if you don't start young,
04:10how do you, how can you have...
04:11How will get the options then?
04:13Then you have to sacrifice.
04:15You will not get all the options then.
04:17So what is your ideal candidate? Tell me.
04:20No, there is no ideal, it's all destiny.
04:22Whenever the marriage is written, they will get married, that's all.
04:25It's not in my hand also.
04:27It's all destiny.
04:29When the stars are aligned, what I have told in the show,
04:32then your things will click.
04:34That's all.
04:35And in this world where there are so many divorces happening,
04:37people, young kids are not believing in this institution called marriage anymore.
04:42They want to live in, etc.
04:43Where did you fit in?
04:45How did you think I will be employable?
04:48You see, I tell the kids, I give the youth the advice
04:53that nowadays the youth are very smart,
04:56they are financially independent and they are focused,
05:00but they don't know the values of giving, sharing, taking, loving.
05:04These four values they don't have.
05:06Sharing, caring, loving and respecting.
05:10These four things they don't have.
05:12So, I tell them, if the institution which is coming through thousands of years,
05:17there might be some importance in that.
05:19So, if you follow this, then I give advice to them,
05:23if you follow this, then the problem of divorces and the depression and all will not come.
05:29Because some importance is there.
05:31So, these values are coming on since thousands of years.
05:34And you have to balance your professional life and your individual life,
05:39if you balance that.
05:40Your personal life.
05:41Personal life.
05:42If you balance both, because everybody is professional, everybody is working.
05:45If you balance these both things, then the life will be smooth.
05:48And the values, if you intact all these values, then there will be no problem.
05:51Do you think, you know, the boys and girls or women of marriageable age,
05:56they are now lot more, you know, fixed about what they want,
06:00that fixed idea, I need him or I need her.
06:03So, I told her, you will never get 100%.
06:05Compromise is your favourite word?
06:07Compromise, no.
06:08Now, I have changed to understanding.
06:10It's the same meaning.
06:11But our stupid janta, they don't want compromise.
06:15They want understanding.
06:17So, now I have changed to understanding.
06:19People are happy, I said, okay.
06:21My thing is just to send a message, understanding I will tell, so what.
06:25So, I am not telling compromise.
06:27I love it.
06:28Yeah, I know, I remember.
06:29Little be flexible.
06:30Be little adjustment.
06:32And appreciate husband, wife, each other's strength.
06:36Drop your ego and important is have patience.
06:41This is the example to all the ladies.
06:44They can do anything at any age.
06:46There is no, I am now old or now I am 50, I cannot do.
06:50Anything you can do it.
06:52Now, singing, since childhood, I had a dream.
06:55Then I thought, then I always think, oh, whether I should sing or no,
06:59because so nice singers are there in the world.
07:01Then I thought, my voice has become my asset.
07:03The world is loving my voice.
07:04They are loving the way I talk.
07:06In the show, they are loving it so much.
07:08Because you are real.
07:09Real.
07:10So, I said, why not sing a song.
07:34Come, dance together.
07:35Getting ready to get married.
