00:00Both the BJP and the Congress are now well underway to preparing for the next round of

00:09state elections that crucially include Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh towards the

00:13end of this year.

00:15Now in Madhya Pradesh, the BJP is a little worried.

00:18That's because Shivraj Singh Chauhan is a four-time chief minister, he'll be seeking

00:22a record fifth term.

00:24So there's already a sense of leadership fatigue with him.

00:26But more importantly, his government has faced a series of scandals, corruption allegations

00:31and a lot of anti-incumbency.

00:33There's also factionalism and infighting which is hurting the party in the state.

00:38Does that sound familiar?

00:39Well, to many Madhya Pradesh leaders, Karnataka comes as a warning.

00:43And so they've reached out to the central leadership and said, you guys need to sort

00:47out the leadership tussle in the state and you also need to push very quickly ahead with

00:52more welfare schemes, particularly targeted at women and other vulnerable groups.

00:57The BJP is also doing some firefighting on Haryana, where Chief Minister Khattar has

01:01been on the back foot for a while.

01:03He's been facing protests.

01:04And then the wrestler protests couldn't have come at a worse time for the party.

01:09It helps the BJP that the Congress too has factional issues in both these states.

01:14Rajasthan, meanwhile, is a completely different story, which deserves a separate column very

01:19soon.
