00:30Hello everybody, I'm sitting here with a very very interesting gentleman, Mr. Muhammad Al-Falasi
00:37He is a passionate diver. He's a free diver and he has taken that a notch level up
00:45he has
00:47Set up his own company called no and one of the main purposes of that company is to take other passionate divers
00:54along with him and
00:56Explore the the seas that surrounds the the Arabian waters and
01:03take people on expeditions
01:05And really literally go to no man's water
01:10As as he says, so please welcome to this lovely interview with Gulf News and tell us about
01:17No, and how did you start it? When did you start it? And why did you do it? So
01:23Now as a concept was there
01:26before 2014
01:29We used to be a group of passionate
01:31seagoers
01:33Ocean lovers. I used to be also jet ski racing back in the past
01:39I stopped that and just also went back to jet ski racing just maybe
01:45A year ago. I got third on my third race
01:50So it started from there started from loving the ocean
01:54But not really knowing what to do in the ocean. I
01:59did a lot of sports and in the ocean kayaking and
02:04jet skiing and
02:06other kind of sports like flyboarding
02:10But then I found free diving and free diving was very exciting for me because it's an extreme sport that requires you to
02:17Be as calm as you can
02:20so it was like a
02:23Yin-Yang kind of situation where you have to hold your breath, but you have also to relax while diving
02:31So it started from there free diving passion and then after going on free diving trips for a while. I started noticing that
02:40we have we have a group of friends that we can create something with create an initiative with and
02:47We created the team and we simply called it
02:51Now
02:53So is there a special meaning to the name is it
02:57well now in
02:59Emirati slang the Arabic means barnacles
03:05Barnacles attached to boats and and all and fishermen hate them because they attach to the boats
03:11however, they are very critical to the ecosystem to the marine ecosystem as they filter water and
03:18Have other other things that benefit the marine ecosystem. However, that was the concept behind it. It was a
03:27name that wasn't really
03:31People will not choose it usually but people who love the ocean know a lot that the now is
03:39Or now barnacles are really helpful to the environment. So we chose the name based on that
03:46So what have been some of your achievements since the time you set up know
03:51Our achievements well
03:54we
03:55We are one of the most
03:58known brands in
04:00free diving and expeditions in Musandam we have
04:05The most expeditions are under our belt our belts in Musandam
04:11We have also
04:13partnered with critical
04:17Brands and teams in in in the marine
04:22In the marine ecosystem environmental ecosystem or environmental
04:30Goals and environmental
04:34Sorry, I
04:35Missed the world, but we have partnered with people like New York University where we have always
04:43communication about the environmental
04:46Situation in Musandam. We also have partnered with
04:50The best racing best jet ski racing team in the world who has also the most cups under their belt
04:58xbj racing
05:00We took people we actually went on expeditions
05:05with people to
05:07Musandam so it is an achievement actually to take people who have no
05:11Experience whatsoever and show them a place that is quite dangerous
05:15But again, so beautiful right you did mention earlier that Musandam is is the place for you like it's the most beautiful
05:25Destination for you as a free diver
05:28Why do you say that?
05:30Musandam first of all has a lot of history with even
05:34Dubai where our families in the past used to go and
05:38they used to
05:40Go there to for summer vacations, basically
05:45That was maybe 70 years ago
05:48so
05:50Musandam is actually engraved in our past as a destination as a beautiful destination
05:55however, my real passion to Musandam what makes me interested in in that area is
06:03The mystery of
06:04The waters there it's very mysterious because the depth can range from 5 meter to 300 meters
06:12and
06:14unexpected
06:16Sightings
06:18that we can see there in terms of marine wildlife and
06:22Apex predators like sharks is truly abundant and truly
06:27mesmerizing so
06:28We go there not expecting what to see
06:31But sometimes we see things that are beyond our imagination
06:37Like spotted eagle rays sharks
06:41We see dolphins
06:44Turtles you name it. We've seen it there. So what drives you is it the adventure?
06:50and the passion
06:53I'm mostly a calm person, but I love
06:57I love I have a crazy side, which is the extreme sports part as you know, I do
07:04like I
07:06love
07:07Jet-ski racing which is a thrilling
07:10Adrenaline filled sport extreme sport
07:12you'll see me tend to shift to these kind of sports because they
07:18Make me feel more alive and free diving is the most
07:23Most adrenaline
07:25Filled sport that I have
07:29That I have done because you're literally literally holding your breath
07:33going as deep as you want to and
07:37Observing marine life there. So you're facing the unknowns on every layer of the dive
07:44You have to stay calm even though you're doing an extreme sport, which is contradictory to all extreme sports
07:51It takes you in a different state where you don't feel
07:57time or
07:58Existence when you're in that moment under the water. So this is what keeps taking me back to free diving
08:05So if you are a free diver then do reach out to mr. Muhammad al-falasi and join his NOG group
08:12You're sure to have a really great time with him and his team
08:17For now, this is Anjana Kumar for Gulf News
08:47You
