00:00My name is Ilham Beloki. I'm the experiential learning manager at the Dubai College of Tourism.
00:05I'm also an instructor here teaching hospitality courses, mainly operational courses such as
00:11food and beverage, front office, housekeeping, and preparing for a career. With my background,
00:16having done my bachelor's and my master's in international hospitality, having worked in
00:21the hotel, so having that experience, it was kind of like a great formula for me to work at the Dubai
00:29College of Tourism, where I'm able to, you know, teach students more about the industry and kind
00:36of help the next generation going into the industry. I think obviously with the pandemic,
00:40we've been able to go into this hybrid learning experience, so, you know, incorporating classroom
00:47and online learning. As Dubai College of Tourism is a vocational college, I think this is a great
00:52way to, for all, actually, I think education is going towards this way. I'm in a lot of
00:57conversations about whether the traditional, you know, schooling system is necessary for our
01:05industry. So, it has been very interesting lately and learning about the different points of view,
01:11especially in relation to the tourism industry. So, I think vocational college is definitely a
01:16way forward, providing young individuals the opportunity to work and experience the
01:24industry while they're studying. I think this does not only increase their interest, but also,
01:30as a young person, having to make the decision, is this where I'm going for my future? I think it
01:37gives them the added push to see if this is actually their passion or not. So, allowing them
01:42to experience the industry firsthand, as well as study the theoretical knowledge that they gain at
01:47the college, and then decide, so do I want to work, continue studying, and it's completely really up
01:51to them to create the future that they want in the industry. So, my mother was a
01:57working woman, so I guess I always had that to look up to. Also, I think it's interesting because
02:05I've obviously, as a millennial, seen Dubai go through so much, and I think any person, whether
02:10UAE national or not, growing up in Dubai, you get that spirit of Dubai, which is basically like
02:17everything is achievable, right? There's no impossible in sight. So, I think that's a big
02:23part of where I get my drive from. There's no better time to join the industry than right now.
02:31Every one in ten people is in the tourism industry, so it's extremely dynamic. There's no
02:36job in the world where you're able to, every day, meet new people, interact with different cultures,
02:41and travelers from around the world. So, it's extremely dynamic, it's exciting, it's innovative,
02:48and it allows you to really understand yourself, but also other people, and I think that's a skill
02:53that is very unique, that you can really learn in the industry and use anywhere in the world.
