00:00Priyanka Gandhi has made her debut as a Member of Parliament in this Winter Session of the

00:08Lok Sabha. And the BJP's reaction has been on predictable lines, which is to attack the

00:13Gandhi family on the issue of dynasty. In fact, this is a key issue that the BJP has

00:19been harping on for more than 10 years now. However, frankly, it's fallen flat simply

00:24because when it comes to dynasty, it is something that afflicts all political parties in India

00:29today, including the BJP, which has a long list of dynasties who are now ministers in

00:36the union government, in state governments, chief ministers, ministers in state governments,

00:41people that they've given tickets to to contest elections. So frankly, the BJP's dynasty accusation

00:47against the Congress rings hollow. It will be interesting to see how Priyanka Gandhi's

00:51innings will play out in Parliament. It is the first time that both the siblings, Rahul

00:57and Priyanka and their mother Sonia Gandhi are in Parliament. Of course, Sonia Gandhi

01:01is in the Rajya Sabha and she's not playing as much of an active role politically today.

01:05So how Priyanka and Rahul lead the Congress charge in Parliament will be something that

01:10will be keenly watched. But as I said, dynasty is no longer unique to the Congress. Every

01:16regional party, all other parties barring the left have the same issues to deal with.

01:22And ultimately, it is voters who decide whether a dynast is elected or not. Rahul Gandhi learnt

01:28it the hard way when he lost from a methi at the hands of Smriti Irani. So if voters

01:32don't want dynast, they won't elect them. And if they do, they will elect them. And

01:37voters in India are smart enough to make their own choices.
