00:00Dengue cases in the country have increased by 40% compared to the previous year.
00:06It is proven that 8 more places in 3 regions are likely to declare dengue outbreak next to Quezon City.
00:15Aside from cleaning the surroundings and opening health centers 24x7,
00:21there are other alternative ways in some places to fight dengue.
00:26This is the story of Bien Manalo.
00:31After the declaration of dengue outbreak, the local government of Quezon City, Kamakailana,
00:36because of the increasing number of cases of people infected with deadly diseases,
00:42has decided to clean the surroundings of her house in Barangay Matandang Balara.
00:48Her house is even closer to the creek where it is possible for mosquitoes to enter.
00:54We need to clean the inside of the house and the outside.
00:57We need to remove the wheels, throw away the heavy things.
01:04We also need to clean the bottles.
01:07And as a precaution to her children, especially to her 4-year-old son.
01:13We put a lotion for mosquitoes to avoid dengue.
01:19We also need to wear pajamas.
01:21Sometimes I smoke inside the house to get rid of the smell.
01:26Once again, the barangay of Matandang Balara in Quezon City is considering
01:31to remove mosquitoes from rivers and vacant lots.
01:35As of 2018 and 2019, the barangay will remove mosquitoes
01:41after 2 people got sick and died.
01:44There are more than 200 cases of dengue in the area.
01:47But the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Department of Health
01:53has no objection to the removal of mosquitoes as a solution to the dengue outbreak.
01:57According to the DNR, there is no sufficient study to prove that this is an effective solution.
02:03In our opinion, because of what we did,
02:07we saw that the cases of dengue decreased.
02:14Although we still believe that mosquitoes can still help,
02:19especially in vacant lots where barangay cannot enter to clean.
02:27There are 45 cases of dengue in the area.
02:30But despite this, the barangay is ready to follow the orders of the Department of Health.
02:36And they will just insist on cleaning and carrying out information dissemination against dengue.
02:43We will follow the 5S strategy of the Department of Health.
02:50The removal of mosquitoes is our last option if we cannot find a solution.
03:00Aside from cleaning the area,
03:02an alternative method was launched by a barangay in Mandaluyong City
03:07as a solution to the increase in the number of cases of dengue.
03:10This is the one with the mosquitoes.
03:12Anyone who brings even a few mosquitoes is encouraged to live or die in exchange for the mosquito.
03:18According to the Department of Health,
03:20aside from QC,
03:21there are still 8 places in the country where dengue outbreak is expected to be announced
03:26due to the continuous increase in the number of cases.
03:29According to the DOH,
03:30there are more than 20,000 cases of dengue reported in the Philippines since February.
03:37This is more than 40% higher than the number of reported cases on the same date last year.
03:43Although there is an increase in the number of cases,
03:45the fatality rate remains at 0.35%.
03:49The declaration of an outbreak does not mean that it is a disease.
03:53This means that the number of cases has increased
03:57compared to what is usually expected in one part of the year.
04:02The DOH reminds everyone not to doubt the symptoms of dengue
04:08and to immediately consult a doctor.
04:10Meanwhile, the Department of Health has ordered the local governments
04:15to declare a dengue outbreak.
