The head of Ofsted says school holidays should be shorter to give children more learning time. Do children get too many holidays?
Transcript
00:00They get part of many holidays.
00:03I think they're fine as they are now, to be fair, because I feel like if you have longer
00:08holidays it's less time to learn, and then shorter holidays it's more stress, I guess.
00:14I don't know.
00:15I think it's the perfect amount.
00:16It's alright.
00:17It could vary per school, do you know what I mean, if some schools are struggling, whatever.
00:21Yeah, I think it could vary by, yeah, because some of them it feels arbitrary, like, especially
00:26Easter holidays being two weeks.
00:28I don't know for religious schools, perhaps any Muslim school or anything, they could
00:32like, they don't need it.
00:33Maybe six weeks.
00:34Yeah.
00:35It's a little bit, but it's not bad at all.
00:36Yeah.
00:37It's alright.
00:38Yeah.
00:39I think term times are quite a solid length.
00:41I think they're pretty good.
00:42I think it comes down to quality of learning, not the quantity.
00:46I do think, though, there should be slightly longer half-terms, because one week isn't
00:50really enough to get your energy back for the next half-term.
00:54So what they get now is, even the first week they're bored, they've got nothing to do.
