00:00Okay, let's talk about your album. You kind of paved the way for so many female Latin
00:06artists. I like to say you walked so they could run. And you're kind of decided to
00:10change your sound this with this new album. When did you know you wanted your music to
00:23go in this direction? I'll always do urban. But like, if you see, if you start looking
00:29like in every project, I used to like put a one bachata, you know, and I was like,
00:34well, let's see how people react how the if the fans like it or not. But definitely for me, like,
00:41since ever since I was a kid, like in Dr. Dominican Republic, you know, bachata was
00:46always in the mix, and merengue and salsa and all of that stuff. So I always knew I
00:54liked singing different things, because I feel like that's what's fun. So I always, you know,
01:01used to give that little hint of a bachata. But obviously, with that song with me, which is the
01:08one that your mom listens to, I remember that Romeo actually proposed doing the remix of that
01:15song. So I mean, it was crazy for me, because I was like, damn, it's Romeo, you know, like Aventura,
01:20I've always been a fan. I mean, who hasn't? And everything started from there. Honestly,
01:27I didn't know I was gonna do a whole bachata album. I never knew like, I was gonna be given
01:32the opportunity of doing it, even though I did want to do it. And I don't think it could happen
01:40in a better way than the king of bachata himself, guiding me. Because you would say,
01:46I could do a song or two, but it started with a song. And then it was two. And then the third
01:52song came in, like it was nothing planned. And I feel like that's the best part of everything.
01:59Like, yes, let's make an album. We didn't know how many. We didn't know we were gonna like all
02:05the songs. And we liked every single song. So I don't know, the awesome part about it is that we
02:11didn't plan it in that way. And it just happened. And it's so natural that I could be, I can go back
02:20to my roots. I feel like all Latinos, we can all feel that vibe. And I feel like that's, that's a
02:25part of reinventing yourself. And it's so beautiful, too, because like, just the evolution of Latin
02:30music has evolved so much that it's not just reggaeton. Like you see so many different artists,
02:35like playing with merengue, salsa, bachata, and like, and the audience being so receptive. And
02:40like, as a salvadoreña, like we love bachata, merengue, salsa, like a thing here in Salvador.
02:45Yeah, beautiful. Yeah. That's all we would play around the house. So it's just like listening to
02:50like, you come out with music like this. It's like, it reminds us of home, even though like,
02:54our cultures are different. We're from different countries. It's just like, a nice little hug.
02:59Now you don't get to hear the artists that your parents used to hear only, but now you can hear
03:04it like in people that you also feel connected with, because you're from the same generation,
03:09like I get it. And that's like, the same thing that we were doing with reggaeton is like, well,
03:14let me go back to my roots, because I know there's a whole generation out there of the people of the
03:19fans that are have been with me for this whole time that also deserve like to have a quality
03:26in their lives. You know, like, we want to dance we, you know, we want to have a little bit of
03:32bachata. Everybody has to live that moment how we did when we were kids and our parents and all
03:40that stuff. So I feel like it's it's a very huge opportunity for me to like, give that to people
03:47and I feel it feels very natural. And I feel like that's the best part of it all.
03:52Yeah. And I mean, you briefly did talk a little bit about working with Romero.
03:55Talk to me more about working with him. Did he kind of pull out a different side of you?
03:59Lyrically, musically, because this album is so vulnerable and honest, and I and I love it.
04:06Well, definitely he knew that I like talking crudo, like he definitely knows that he's like,
04:13do you feel comfortable saying that? I'm like, hell yeah, we can go even more raw than that.
04:18I don't care. Like, I feel like bachata is about that. And every song in the album from this day
04:25on, each song, each song, like he used to sit next to me. I was pregnant, so I had my huge belly,
04:36no AC some days, Plano, Miami, summer, the heat of it all. And he used to he sat down next to me
04:46for each song. I remember he's like, no, now you have to breathe this way. I'm like,
04:53okay, let's do it. And like, there's such a passion about each word, each line. So I was
05:01learning from the master from the king of bachata himself. Obviously, he was he was very respectful
05:07of who Nati Natasha is, who her voice is. But something so much fun for me was learning from
05:14him. So I think we both learned from each other. We are both very passionate about a interpretation
05:22of each song, because that's what everybody connects with. Like, when I get my man knows,
05:28like people knew that I was going through that at that moment. And it's crazy, because at the
05:32moment that he showed me that song, and when I recorded that song, I wasn't necessarily going
05:37through the things that I was going through now. But it's such a good song. And the lyrics are so
05:43real that you can reinvent the song, like the song has a different meaning each time. And for each
05:50song, the process was that he was next to me sitting down, sometimes no, no AC changing the
05:58lyrics, like what can we do now? Every song on that album, he was there with me. And I feel like
06:04that's something so admirable. But like he doesn't he didn't need to do that. But he did it out of
06:10the passion for the music. Yeah, and that's so beautiful to hear just like that collaboration.
06:16And you also work with Osuna, who you've worked with before on this. How is it working with Osuna?
06:21And how are they different? We called Osuna. And we're like, listen, are you in Miami? He's like,
06:28yeah, what we have this song and we played like a little bit for him. And he's like, is that my
06:34child? We're like, yeah, Romeo and us, you should come through. And he did. He literally did that.
06:40And that same night. And Romeo was also like guiding him because this is a lot of his
06:48perspective. So esas respiraciones y esas cosas en cada canción, like he was a part of that,
06:54respecting each person's, each artist's like vision, obviously. Pero he was definitely into
07:00it all. When I mean you had to repeat La Química de Criminal, he gave me the opportunity, which
07:06I'm always going to be grateful for that. I feel like he after five years of not being able to be
07:12in the music industry like that, like so present, he gave me the opportunity again in his peak
07:17of collaborating with him. He didn't need to do that. So I'm always going to be so grateful. And
07:21I feel like this was a second, a second first time for us. And I was like, it has to be a
07:26bachata. I mean, like, we have a very good relationship. And he said yes. So you already
07:32know, everybody loves also. And I love him too. Yeah. And you guys together are just like a
07:37dynamite combination. Is there one song on this album that you're the most proud of?
07:42Who hasn't been Nati Natasha? Like who can say they've only gone through one thing in life?
07:50Desde Hoy was the first song that I heard from the project. So that has that definitely has a
07:56meaning. And and I feel like it's a saga. It's like you're fighting with the like the music's
08:02fighting for you literally musically. And the lyrics you're reinventing yourself.
08:07I was going through that at that moment when I launched the song. So I mean, that's a song that
08:12I tried to sing and I start crying when I do. Vendaje, a lot of us have had, you know, have
08:21gone through vendaje when it's like you want to cover a wound with somebody else, but you can't
08:26because there's one person that you love and that's the person you want to be with. Pinocchio,
08:32like they're each song has a different story, a different meaning and different perspective
08:39that I gotta say that Emily that each song is like is a thing. I know it's a vibe. It's a
08:46different world. Yeah, no. And it's like you have a song for every feeling. And I mean, you did touch
08:52on your tough year, but you reunited last year with Rafa. How is it being back together? Your
08:58family's reunited. Like talk to me through that reunion and just you guys together now. It's
09:04a breather. Like it's like finally, because I mean, each day like you wake up
09:12wanting to do that. Like they always reinvent the universe. So or I used to listen to myself
09:19by myself. Get him a man knows. And I used to say like, wow, you know, when we recorded this song,
09:24he was here and it had a total different meaning. And today has a different meaning.
09:29Him being back is like La Casa Completa, you know, like a home is definitely.
09:38And I feel like each person has such an important role, you know, and then my baby,
09:44he's he's like my main support. Like we're a team. Besides being when I feel like the
09:50admiration you could feel for someone is like what moves you. And he was a part of this album.
09:56He's always supported me, supported Nati, Natasha so much, you know, that I know people feel like,
10:01oh, you know, he's like my manager. He's the person that guides me daily. And it feels great
10:09having your partner home. You know, I was a little bit I'm a little misogynistic.
10:13Siempre I've always celebrated them with my with my daughter, who is like my main
10:20enemy. Me told me I'm sort of a little bit of an idiot. I'm going to tend to suppress
10:25things. Yeah, it's like amazing. And now celebrating Nati, Natasha and Margie.
10:29Finally, that is a reality. And it's out there and it's everywhere. I couldn't believe it.
10:35And honestly, I can't believe it still. So I'm like celebrating.
10:43All these days because I'm like, it's finally happening, you know, him home,
10:47the album, everything is like a balance. And I really want to just enjoy the moment. And I want
10:52fans and I want people that don't even know me yet to like, if they hear these songs for the
10:57first time to know that this is a whole other movement. And that the moment that I decided
11:03to reinvent myself, like I feel like they all did with me. And this is a whole new era that
11:09I just want to be able to relax and enjoy. Yeah. And you mentioned your daughter,
11:13Vida, who is so freaking precious. Obviously, your partners in the music industry,
11:20you are a singer. Do you think she would ever go into the music industry? Would you say?
11:24I don't know, but that would be interesting. I feel like she's a whole little character herself.
11:31I'm amazed sometimes of the things she does, but I feel like that means that
11:36I've been doing the right thing, you know, like I haven't shown
11:40like everything that has been going on. I've always gone through the positive side and music
11:46to me has always been an outlet. So this album was an outlet. She knows almost all the song.
11:53Her favorite song is Tu Loca. By the way, we were in the release and she was like, move,
11:58let me see mom. She was like, Tu Loca mom. So to me, that was like,
12:04this is real. Like she was in my belly when I was recording this song. And now she's saying like
12:09that's her favorite song, you know, like that feels weird. That's very, very weird, but
12:16Tan gratificante. And if she does go into the music world, I'm going to be there to support
12:24her for sure, whatever she wants to do. But she's definitely a little artist herself.
12:29Oh, I love it. And I mean, also earlier in the interview, I mentioned how you were kind of the
12:34artists that female artists that paved the way for a lot of other Latin artists, like you've
12:39worked with Carol G, Becky G, is there advice that you've given them or whenever you work with newer
12:44female artists that you kind of give have advice that you got that you always pass along to them?
12:49I feel like it's more of a supportive thing. Each artist has like their own
12:58their own formula because not everyone like I feel like that's the main advice that you can
13:03give anyone in the world like in any campo de trabajo like there's not a formula and like you
13:10just really have to keep striving and keep working with a lot of discipline, understanding that not
13:17every day you're going to get the results that you want, but you have to maintain positive.
13:26Are the people that like support you in every way and just be positive, you know,
13:31because not every day you feel like super hyper. But I feel like the reason why
13:37this group of females, including myself, have like
13:48a lot of passion that we feel for what we do and we're not afraid pretty much because
13:56now it's gotten a little bit more clear, but definitely like when I feel like when I started
14:02it was like something that people had never seen so much, you know, and I never thought about that.
14:09So sometimes you have to do like
14:11Yeah, because it's creativity at the end of the day and music is something that you feel,
14:19something that you want to express and you can't be afraid to do something like that. So definitely
14:24we always really just support each other like, you know, we repost and we just keep supporting
14:33and we stay united, which I feel like is the main thing of like staying up there.
14:39As a fan of all of y'all's music and Latina as well, it's so nice to just see you guys
14:46throughout the year supporting each other because for so many years, no matter from where you were,
14:50it was like women were being put against women and you guys kind of broke the mold and we're
14:54like, no, it's true that like we're going to support each other, uplift each other,
14:56like do our own thing, but like be there for one another girl.
15:00Forget about that. Like you just have to like, and sometimes if you see a girl that is not a
15:04girl's girl, you got to ignore that person, you know, because sometimes,
15:12and when you ignore that type of stuff and behavior, like you also teach that person,
15:16like we don't accept that, like what you say, what you're doing, like trying to divide people
15:22is not correct or we don't accept it, you know, like everyone has their perspective, but
15:30es una manera de enseñarle a la gente también, like not accepted here, you know, we, we support
15:35each other, we grow. And if one of us is up there, we're all up there, you know,
15:44then that will be horrible. Yeah. That's not okay. No, it is not.
15:52You seem to be in such a good place in this era of your life, but if you could describe
15:57this new era in just one word, what would it be? Complete. I love that. I love that.
16:04And before we wrap up, I wanted to play a quick little rapid fire game that we have.
16:08Okay. I love that. Those I love. It's called 3, 2, 1. First question,
16:13three favorite slang words from the Dominican Republic.
16:16Que lo que, tigre, teteo. What do they mean?
16:24Que lo que is like, what's up? Tigre is like when you, like, bro, like, tigre, dime, like,
16:31how you doing? Like, like, it's very general, like to talk to a guy or to a girl without saying
16:36their names. And teteo is a, is a get together, que se comenzó a dar en la pandemia, like people
16:42drink in the streets. It's like a street party. Okay. And you gotta go over there and you gotta
16:48get some teteo. I need to go to the Dominican Republic. A Latin singer or artist who you
16:56idolized growing up? Romeo Santos. I mean, this might be Romeo, but favorite artists you've
17:02collabed with? Girl, put me on the Red Sea right there. Let me see. I don't know. They're all my
17:11favorite because they're like so different. Everybody's so different, Em. Let me see.
17:18No puedo responder esa? All of them.
