00:00DAP veteran M Kulasegaran has decided to withdraw from next month's elections for the party's
00:06Central Executive Committee.
00:08In a statement, the National Vice-Chairman said he decided to withdraw from the race
00:13to make way for younger leaders.
00:15However, he urged members not to forget the sacrifices that some of their leaders had
00:20made which saw them endure arrest, persecution and intimidation.
00:25It is understood that he is throwing his support behind DAP Chairman Lim Guan Eng, who is
00:29facing a serious challenge in the elections.
00:33His decision to sit out the party polls comes three days after National Advisor Tan Kok
00:37Wai, National Treasurer Fong Kui Lun and party veteran P Boon Po announced their withdrawal,
00:43with them citing the same reason.
00:45Kulasegaran, who has been with DAP for 30 years, urged the party to continue championing
00:50the rights of ordinary working-class Malaysians and human rights as a whole.
