00:00The Department of Agriculture or DA has expanded its temporary ban on the poultry imports due

00:07to recent outbreaks of avian flu in several regions.

00:12The ban includes restrictions on poultry products such as meat, eggs, and day-old chicks from

00:19affected areas.

00:20These and more in tonight's Business Wrap from the Philippine News Agency.

00:32In our business news, the Department of Agriculture has temporarily banned the import of poultry

00:37products from four U.S. states to prevent the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza.

00:47This came after the U.S. Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service confirmed on February

00:523 the outbreaks of H5N1 bird flu in Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

01:01Agriculture Secretary Francisco Chulaurel Jr. ordered the suspension of processing and

01:06issuance of sanitary and phytosanitary import clearances on poultry products from the four

01:12U.S. states.

01:14The temporary ban includes the import of domestic and wild birds, poultry, meat, eggs, day-old

01:21chicks, and semen.

01:23The DA earlier imposed a similar import ban in the U.S. states of Maryland, Missouri,

01:29and South Dakota, as well as in East Otago, Waitaki, and Canterbury in New Zealand.

01:36In other news, motorcycle sales in the country increased by 7 percent in 2024, according

01:43to the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association, or MDPPA.

01:49At least 1.68 million motorcycles were sold last year, from 1.57 million in 2023.

01:57The MDPPA cited the upcoming 2025 elections' favorable economic conditions and House bills

02:04supporting the motorcycle industry among the factors behind the increase in sales.

02:10It said this is the highest sales figure for the motorcycle sector in over five years.

02:16Meanwhile, automobile manufacturers plan to sell 500,000 cars in 2025, exceeding last

02:23year's over 467,000 units.

02:27The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers in the Philippines, Inc., or CAMPI, said they

02:33are banking on the newly rolled-out models and the introduction of new models later

02:39this year.

02:41This January, CAMPI's joint report with the Track Manufacturers Association of the Philippines

02:47showed that they have sold 37,604 units, 79.4 percent of which consisting of commercial

02:55vehicles.

02:56They also sold 1,445 hybrid electronic vehicles, 146 battery electric vehicles, and nine plug-in

03:04hybrid electric vehicles.
