00:00An analyst said the friction between Bersatu Youth Chief Hilman Itham and several party
00:06leaders is proof that the spat between certain factions in the party is far from over.
00:13International Islamic University Malaysia's Lao Tzu Wei said the recent tiff over the
00:18foundations of the party's establishment was just an issue of narrative.
00:23However, Lao pointed out that no one had come to Hilman's defense so far.
00:28Hilman recently drew brickbats from its party colleagues for saying that Bersatu did not
00:33only champion Malay rights as the party's constitution calls for members to champion
00:39the welfare of Malaysians, irrespective of race or religion.
00:43In response, Bersatu's Supreme Council Member Wan Ahmad Faisal Wan Ahmad Kamal advised Hilman
00:50to read up on the party's founding principles, maintaining that Bersatu was a party for the
00:55Malays and Bumi Putra.
00:57Another Bersatu Supreme Council Member, Afan Jumahat, reminded Hilman to be more careful
01:04when airing his views in public.
01:06Meanwhile, Shahzad Shukri, also from IIUM, said Hilman's statement should not have become
01:12a major issue, describing the latest dispute as merely a political squabble.
