00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. was the first to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the independence of Manila.
00:07On his birthday, the President once again celebrated the heroism of our fellow countrymen who fought against the Japanese.
00:14This is Clayzel Pardilian of PTV in Balitang Pambansa.
00:19The Philippines, deeply familiar with the atrocities brought about by war between and amongst nations,
00:25has always chosen the path of peace.
00:28And I can assure all of you that we will continue to do so.
00:32Despite the tensions in the West Philippine Sea, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. once again celebrated the progress of peace.
00:41On the 80th anniversary of the independence of Manila,
00:45the President celebrated the Philippines' commitment to our rights
00:50while promoting cooperation and diplomacy in solving problems and upholding prosperity.
00:58Through diplomacy, dialogue, and cooperation, we have successfully maintained a region that is peaceful, stable, and prosperous.
01:06We have and will continue to work with partners and the international community
01:11in building bridges, forging solutions, and preserving our global commons.
01:15In 1945, after three years of Japanese occupation of the Philippines,
01:21the American and Filipino forces liberated the city of Manila from the control of the Japanese.
01:28But thousands of soldiers and civilians were wounded.

01:39Filipinos paid the highest price for democracy to be preserved and for democracy to flourish.
01:46Standing on this hallowed ground, we are reminded of our solemn duty to always do what is necessary
