00:21First of all, fellow countrymen, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the independence of Manila
00:30at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in Luzon, Taguig.
00:34Activities from the United States government, well-known personalities from the Philippines and veterans of World War II
00:45to honor those who sacrificed their lives in one of the most intense battles in the history of the Philippines.
00:52The Battle in Manila, in February 1945, marked the end of the Japanese occupation of the Philippines but left a deep scar and the loss of many lives.
01:05Thousands of Filipino civilians, now also American and Japanese soldiers, returned home from the battle left by the former fierce Kavisera in the destruction.
01:15President Marcos Jr. led the celebration of the victims of the brutal Battle of Manila in 1945, one of the deadliest conflicts in the history of the Philippines.
01:28President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. once again strengthened the commitment of the Philippines to maintain a strong relationship with the United States and other international allies
01:37to promote peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
01:41President Marcos Jr. also expressed his gratitude for the long-standing partnership between the Philippines and the United States,
01:48which has given importance to peace, democracy, and prosperity.
01:54With the relaying ceremonies of the U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines, Mayor KL Carson, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command Admiral Samuel Paparo,
02:02and American Battle Monuments Commission Secretary Charles Dio,
02:05the Manila American Cemetery is the last home of more than 17,000 members of the American Service and Memorial to the almost 36,300 individuals who lost their lives in the battle.
02:17Among the honorees are those who received the Medal of Honor, Filipino veterans, and families who served together in the battle.
02:26While the country is commemorating this historic event,
02:30the memory serves as a tribute to the sacrifices made for the freedom and long-lasting effect of the war on the history of the country.
