Macron, Trump vow to work together on Ukraine, despite differences  US President Donald Trump meets with French President Emmanuel Macron in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, DC, where they seek to smooth over a transatlantic rift on Ukraine. On the third anniversary of the Russian invasion, Trump also says he expects Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskyy to visit this week or next, to sign a deal giving Washington access to Kyiv's minerals. 00:00President Macron is very special man in my book. We were together. We did it together and I think a lot of progress has been made.

00:10We've had some very good talks with Russia. We've had some very good talks with others and we're trying to get the war ended with Russia and Ukraine.

00:18And I think we've come a long way.

00:24You may not be able to include a security guarantee for Ukraine.

00:27Well, it'll be... Europe is going to make sure that nothing happens. I don't think it's going to be much of a problem.

00:33I think once we settle, there's going to be no more war in Ukraine.

00:38You're not going to have... It's not going to be a very big problem. That's going to be the least of it.

00:42Do you support the idea to send European troops in Ukraine to back the...

00:46European troops may go into Ukraine as peacemakers.

00:51So when the agreement is done, they can watch that everything is followed properly.

00:55I don't think that's going to be a problem. And a lot of the European countries...

00:59I think... I don't want to speak for France, but I know that the President has talked about doing that also.

01:05I think that'll be a very good day where we can go in as peacekeepers as opposed to what's going on right now with everybody being killed.

01:12Do you meet with President Zelensky soon?

01:15I will be meeting with President Zelensky. In fact, he may come in this week or next week to sign the agreement, which would be nice.

01:23I'd love to meet him. We'd meet at the Oval Office.

01:26So the agreement's being worked on now. They're very close to a final deal.

01:31It'll be a deal with Rare Earths and various other things.

01:35And he would like to come, as I understand it, here to sign it, and that would be great with me.

01:40Will you convince Vladimir Putin to accept the European troops as peacekeepers, do you think?

01:46Yeah, he will accept that. I've asked him that question.

01:49You talked to him?

01:50I've asked him that question.

01:52Look, if we do this deal, he's not looking for war. He doesn't mind.

01:58But I've specifically asked him that question. He has no problem with it.
