00:00Thousands of residents in remote islands in Palawan were given clean water supply by the provincial government.
00:08This is with the help of the Undersea Water Pipeline and Desalination Water System.
00:13Let's take a look at it from the center of the news of Jessie Atienza of PTV Cebu.
00:19We're on a speedboat right now.
00:21We're going to cross some of the islands that were hit by the city of Rojas in the province of Palawan.
00:29In the past, the residents of these islands had to travel 30 minutes up to 1 hour to get potable water.
00:40Now, with the help of the Undersea Water Pipeline and the provincial government of Palawan,
00:47they don't have to travel to the city to get clean and clean water.
00:56Almost 5 kilometers from the town, Shell or Kabugan Island in the province of Barangay 1 will be reached.
01:04The main livelihood of the residents is fishing and livestock production.
01:10According to the Water Development Office of Dalawigan,
01:14the Underwater Pipeline System was laid in 2020 to send water from the mainland to the island.
01:24We used a raft.
01:26We used bamboo and drums.
01:29Then, we have a boat that rows here.
01:33And then, we used sinkers.
01:35Sinkers are concrete to weigh the pipe.
01:39Our pipe is under the sea.
01:41It's in the bed of our seabed.
01:45It's laid there.
01:46Almost 20 kilometers from the town, Green Island in the province of Tumarbong will be reached.
01:55The main livelihood of the residents here is growing seaweed.
02:00They also have a problem getting clean drinking water.
02:04But now, with the help of Desalination Water Technology,
02:07they can make potable water from the sea.
02:12This is a process that separates the concentrated seawater from the product water.
02:17Geographically speaking, Green Island is too far.
02:22Investing a pipeline will make much cost here.
02:29It's not economically designed.
02:32And there is no source near the river.
02:37Even in Tumarbong, the near barangay, there is no river nearby.
02:42So, we came up with the design of Desalination.
02:45The residents of the island are thankful because they now have their own water supply.
02:50It's a big help to us because sometimes, when it's strong, it's hard to get water.
02:58Here, we can buy 20 liters.
03:03We can buy gasoline.
03:05It's hard to live here.
03:08It's a big help to us.
03:11More than 200 households in the whole island benefit from the Desalination Water System.
03:17It can supply 625 liters of potable water in just one hour.
03:24The power supply to their Desalination Water System is just a generator set.
03:30Palawan Water plans to use solar energy for more effective sustainability.
03:36From the province of Palawan, Jesse Atienza for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
