00:50February 25 after school heads declined to suspend classes on the anniversary of the
00:55EDSA People Power Revolution.
00:57PUP students marched from classrooms to the campus' main gate wearing black shirts and
01:02carrying placards.
01:03They called for Vice President Sara Duterte's conviction in her impending impeachment trial.
01:08They also demanded more transparency in the 2025 national budget and accountability from
01:13President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
01:15The PUP student regent says University President Manuel Muji said classes could not be suspended
01:22because PUP is a state university.
01:24Several private schools earlier announced and suspended classes on Tuesday to mark the
01:28People Power anniversary.
01:31Students of the University of Santo Tomas also protested in front of their campus to
01:35commemorate the EDSA revolution.
01:37Adamson University displayed yellow ribbons and banners across its campus.
01:41Meantime, Malacanang said the president has the right to decide on holidays and non-working
01:45days but emphasized that he does not discourage participation in EDSA commemoration activities.
01:53Newly appointed Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon asks the department's other
01:57top officials to resign so he can have a free hand to do his job.
02:02The agency's undersecretaries, assistant secretaries, and directors have until Wednesday,
02:07February 26 to submit their courtesy resignations.
02:10After taking his oath on February 21, Dizon announced plans to bring in former transport
02:15officials to assist him, citing limited time to familiarize himself with the department.
02:20Jeremy Rejino resigned from his position as DOTR undersecretary for the railway sector
02:24in January, several weeks before Jaime Bautista stepped down as secretary.
02:29DOTR sources said Timothy John Batan now oversees the railway sector, taking over from Rejino.
02:35It's unclear whether Dizon will officially retain Batan in the post.
02:39Dizon has yet to say whom he plans to appoint to posts that will be vacated.
02:42He did say he will keep some current undersecretaries.
02:48The U.N. Security Council on Monday, February 24 adopts a U.S.-led resolution that takes
02:53a neutral stand on the war between Ukraine and Russia.
02:56The vote coincides with the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
03:01The short resolution reflects U.S. President Donald Trump's shift in policy on Ukraine
03:06as he adopts a more conciliatory approach to Russia.
03:09The resolution's wording calls for peace but avoids identifying Russia as the aggressor.
03:14The resolution passed the Security Council with 10 votes in favor, while five countries
03:19abstained.
03:20Russia voted in favor after vetoing European amendments supporting Ukraine.
03:25The U.S. earlier failed to convince the U.N. General Assembly to adopt a similar resolution.
03:30Ninety-three of the body's members voted in favor of a resolution drafted by Ukraine
03:35that acknowledges and condemns Russia's invasion that began in February 2022.
03:40The U.S. was one of 18 countries that voted against the Ukraine-led resolution, alongside
03:45Russia, Israel, and North Korea.
03:48The Philippines voted in favor.
03:50Brokering peace between Ukraine and Russia was one of Trump's campaign promises.
03:56The Vatican says Pope Francis, who's battling double pneumonia, rested well throughout the
04:01night.
04:02His latest medical bulletin states the pope is still in critical condition but showed
04:06slight improvement.
04:07The 88-year-old pontiff has spent his 11th night in the hospital, the longest hospital
04:12stay of his nearly 12-year papacy.
04:14The health update mentions that the pope was still receiving oxygen, quote, although it
04:19slightly reduced flow and oxygen percentage, meaning he is able to breathe better on his
04:23own.
04:24It adds that the mild kidney insufficiency first reported on Sunday, February 23, was
04:29not a cause for concern.
04:31A Vatican official speaking anonymously said Francis was eating normally and was able to
04:35get up and move around his hospital room.
04:37Monday's statement also said the pope resumed his work in the afternoon.
04:41He later made a call to the Catholic parish in Gaza, which he has done frequently during
04:45the Israel-Hamas conflict.
04:49Grammy-winning balladeer Roberta Flack passed away on Monday, February 24.
04:54She was 88.
04:55Her publicist Elaine Schoch says Flack died peacefully, surrounded by her family, but
05:00no cause of death was disclosed.
05:02Flack is best known for her hit ballads The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face and Killing
05:06Me Softly with his song that topped the charts in the 1970s.
05:11The late singer revealed in November 2022 that she had been diagnosed with amyotrophic
05:15lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig's disease.
05:19The illness left Flack unable to sing.
05:21The singer won four Grammy Awards and received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020.
05:25She made history as the first artist to win two consecutive Record of the Year honors
05:29for her hits.
05:31They were for The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face in 1973 and Killing Me Softly with his
05:36song in 1974.
