00:00There are hundreds of senior citizens in the province of Cebu who have received cash gifts from the government.

00:06The National Commission of Senior Citizens has promised that their cash gifts will reach the beneficiaries even in a faraway place.

00:15This is Jessie Atienza of PTV Cebu for Balitang Pambansa.

00:19The centenarian, Epifania, smiled when she entered the gymnasium in the house of Tumboran in the province of Cebu.

00:29She is wearing a beautiful dress. It is obvious that she prepared for this special day.

00:35And even though she has reached the age of 100, she is happy to answer the questions.

00:41Her secret in her long life, walking is life.

00:45I want to be a priest. I want to be a priest. I want to be a priest.

00:58Mother Epifania has an advice for the youth.

01:02Don't drink alcohol. Don't smoke. Eat natural food. Don't eat meat.

01:08She is one of the hundreds of senior citizens who have received cash gifts from the R.A. 11982 Expanded Centenarian Act.

01:19It is a way to help the senior citizens and help them in their livelihood.

01:25The mayor of Tumboran was happy because more than 30 senior citizens have received cash gifts.

01:33The senior citizens are active in Tumboran.

01:36It is good because it focuses on agriculture.

01:41In the next 5 to 8 years, our plan is for Tumboran to be organic.

01:45It is better because there is no more toxic food.

01:50Nowadays, there are more than 10,000 people eating chemical fertilizers.

01:59According to the National Commission of Senior Citizens, Region 7,

02:02they are already chasing other beneficiaries who are still lacking in the requirements.

02:07Why is there no cash gift? Because we have a deadline, sir, last February 1.

02:12So until February 1, we don't have a document to submit the cash gift.

02:16So when you go to the commission, they ask what happened to the cash gift.

02:21So the reach information to the barangay level is not enough.

02:26However, as of the moment, we have 500 papers that are being processed in the province.

02:31Meanwhile, the senior citizens in Congress are laughing

02:36at the continuous establishments that are not giving discounts.

02:40If they are not going to pay, because this is the law,

02:44this discount of 12% VAT exemption and 20% senior citizens discount is the law.

02:52So they can't not follow this.

02:55So we called everyone and told them,

02:59if you don't comply here, you will be closed.
