In this week's PEOPLE cover story, 'Grey's Anatomy' star Ellen Pompeo discusses her high school experience. "I was super, super, super skinny," she says. "I was not popular." She also adds, "I didn't go to the prom or do any of that." Reflecting on her younger years, Pompeo acknowledges she battled for self-confidence. "But I just had so much anxiety and lacked self-esteem because people were so critical of my physicality," she says. Even during her early days as an actress, "the tabloids would say horrible things. I just remember being so anxious on red carpets, and the comments about my weight and my body," she adds. "I'm so glad, maybe, hopefully things have changed, because it was much, much more brutal 20 years ago."
