The Federal Aviation Administration has agreed to use SpaceX’s Starlink internet system to upgrade its air traffic management networks, raising concerns about a potential conflict of interest for Elon Musk as he leads efforts to cut federal spending. The contract’s financial terms have not been disclosed, but Bloomberg reported the deal includes 4,000 Starlink terminals to be deployed over the next 18 months. The FAA has an IT contract with Verizon, but Musk criticized the system on X, claiming it endangers air travelers.
