00:04You can get a college degree using your experience and training

00:09under a program that was expanded by a new law.

00:13Darlene Cai was able to get it.

00:18Angeline was in her first year of Business Management course when she had her first child.

00:23She was not able to return to school because her family was pushing her

00:27and fortunately, she was able to find a job.

00:29Even though she had 10 years in Sales and 5 years as a Barangay Health Worker

00:33and now a Secretary, she might have more opportunities if she had a college degree.

00:39It has a huge effect because when you apply for a job,

00:46you can't achieve it because you're always looking for a college graduate.

00:51You need at least 2 to 3 years before you can apply.

00:55Of course, I wasn't able to do it.

00:56Now, it's more possible with the new Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency

01:01and Accreditation Program or ETIAP Act.

01:04In ETIAP, there will be a mechanism to get to know the former students,

01:09as well as the knowledge and experience gained from work or other training,

01:12and consider it an alternative to college classes

01:15to get an equal bachelor's or college degree.

01:18It can be obtained as long as you're Filipino,

01:2023 years of age and have a high school diploma,

01:24and 5 years or more in a job related to a college degree.

01:28This is important because your work will be evaluated and credited as units in your degree program.

01:35If you enter, you will only apply to one of the more than 100 ETIAP-authorized schools

01:40listed in the CHED Regional Offices.

01:42They will assess if your experience is sufficient.

01:45Once they apply, they should already bring with them

01:49the certificates of their work experience, etc.

01:53If you go out and need to take additional units or subjects for a degree,

01:58you can take online night or weekend classes.

02:01In fact, ETIAP has not changed

02:03because there was an Executive Order on this back in 1996.

02:07But now that there is a law, it will be expanded

02:10and the government will give more funds

02:12for more beneficiaries.

02:15Because of this, the Commission on Higher Education or CHED was given power.

02:21As a lead agency, the standards, monitoring, and implementation of the ETIAP program

02:29across the country will be stricter.

02:30It is said that ETIAP is targeting twice as many colleges and universities.

02:35During the Executive Order, there were more than 41,000 ETIAP graduates

02:39from 1999 to October 2024.

02:42Now, Angeline is excited to be added to that number.

02:46I like it better when you have a picture of you graduating.
