Nurses have been working over 45 hours a week even before the official implementation of the 45-hour workweek, says Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni.
Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (March 6), he explained that previous work hours did not account for break times or the additional time spent on unofficial patient handovers.
Lukanisman added that the Health Ministry aims to align the planned 45-hour workweek with the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) to find the best possible solution for nurses.

01:11Regarding the second question raised,
01:14the justification for the increase in the number of nurses working from 42 hours to 45 hours,
01:20the implementation of the number of hours of shift work,
01:2345 hours per week has been introduced through the SSPA public service system
01:29through the implementation of the 45-hour shift work system.
01:34Employees will be given one hour of rest for each shift.
01:38The task assignment or passing over report with permission will be taken into account
01:42during the shift work,
01:44where the task assignment is done at the last hour before the shift work ends
01:48along with the early shift hours and so on.
01:51Thirdly, the employees will be given enough rest time
