00:00Fifty-five schools have already left the senior high school voucher program
00:05for GOE students and those who are involved in other issues.
00:08That is what the Ministry of Education recorded in a hearing in Camara Ngayong Araw.
00:12The details were recorded by Mela Lesmora.
00:17The Department of Education cried out for their continued support
00:21in the issue of GOE students following their senior high school voucher program.
00:26In the hearing of the House Committee on Basic Education and Culture,
00:30the DepEd Education Programs Management Office Project Manager, Atty. Tara Rama,
00:35recorded that they are continuing their own investigation in the issue.
00:38And for now, fifty-five schools have already left the voucher program
00:42due to ghosting and other issues.
00:56And we terminated another thirty-two schools for school year 2022 to 2023.
01:04That is the sum of our findings.
01:08And then for 2023-2024, we already have one terminated.
01:15And then under investigation is another twelve.
01:20The DepEd cannot yet say how much is the total amount of possible waste due to the issue of GOE students.
01:27But there are billing statements that they were not paid from their schools
01:32to stop the possible increase of this amount.
01:35For school year 2023-2024, we did not release around P200 million
01:42because there is a discrepancy.
01:45So we cannot say altogether that those are GOE students
01:49because it might be that they entered private school on the first few months
01:57and then afterwards, they left.
02:01The congressmen are determined to continue investigating the issue until it is resolved.
02:06They also assured the DepEd that the real needs should be included in the voucher program.
02:13We're talking about public funds here.
02:16For us, regardless of the agency or whoever is sitting there,
02:21we really need to be able to use the proper money from the government.
02:26Aside from this, the heat that we are experiencing right now is also evident from the hearing.
02:30Many students are affected by this.
02:34I hope that the DepEd's solution to the problem will not just be online classes.
02:40The agency also needs to...
02:42We have a long-term plan.
02:45We expect this to be an issue every year.
02:48While in the hearing, a resolution was also included in the committee
02:52that recognizes Gregorio De Jesus' patriotism and great commitment to society.
02:58In the next few days, we expect to discuss other important issues here in the camera.
03:04Melales Moras for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
