00:00The Philippine Army is conducting live fire exercises

00:04as part of the Combined Arms Training Exercise, or CATEX-CATIHAN.

00:09The Sabra Light Tank that was purchased in Israel was the first to be used in the exercise.

00:29This is part of the live fire exercises this Friday

00:32of the Combined Arms Training Exercise, or CATEX-CATIHAN, of the Philippine Army.

00:37This is the first time that the Philippine Army used the Sabra Light Tank

00:42in a field training exercise.

00:44These arrived in the Philippines only last year

00:48and were purchased in Israel as part of the AFP Modernization Program Horizon 2.

00:54155mm howitzers and other army weapons were also fired.

00:59Any armor platform provides you the advantages of speed, firepower, and protection.

01:06These are essential capabilities that you need, especially when you're going into mobile warfare.

01:13So they are lethal in both the offense and also in the defense.

01:17The CATEX-CATIHAN is testing the ability of the army when it comes to Combined Arms Operations

01:24to protect the territory of the country and to stop any threats in accordance with the land defense concept.

01:31This is also anchored in external defense,

01:34which is now a priority in the midst of rising geopolitical tensions in the region.

01:41Well, all of this is really intended to prepare us for external defense.

01:45So when you are already doing this at the component level,

01:49some ground operations, we will link that up at the joint.

01:54So we will also be exercising together with the maritime and the air components.

01:59The CATEX-CATIHAN is also part of the preparation for the Balikatan exercises this year

02:04that will start in April and will be the biggest in history.

02:09This Balikatan for this year, it will be our full battle test.

02:15So we will be executing the concept of operations for our bilateral defense of the sovereignty of the Philippines.

02:27Like last year, the Balikatan will not only be held between the Philippines and America

02:32because Australia, Japan, and others are also expected to be part of it.

02:37More observers will also serve from countries in Asia and Europe.
