00:00President Ferdinand R. Marquez Jr. commended local government units or LGUs and nutrition
00:05focal points for their efforts in implementing the country's nutrition programs during a 2024
00:10National Nutrition Awarding Ceremony. 23 LGUs and five local nutrition focal points were identified
00:17and recognized with outstanding nutrition program management practices. PTV's Bernard Ferrer tells us more.
00:23Led by the National Nutrition Council, 23 local government units and five local nutrition focal
00:30points were recognized for their outstanding contributions to improving nutrition and their
00:35respective areas. The impact of malnutrition and the future of children and the country's economy
00:40should not be ignored. Malnutrition exists at alarming levels across different stages of life
00:46throughout our country and this has multifarious effects. It has brought deleterious effects on the
00:53cognitive development and the future of our children. It has contributed to our children
00:59falling behind in their education. In response, the government has launched various programs to
01:04combat hunger and malnutrition including the food stamp program under Walang Gutom 2027 which
01:10provides three thousand pesos of monthly food credits to families in need. The expanded Pantawid
01:16Pamilyang Pilipino program or 4Ps granting a 350 peso month allowance to pregnant women
01:22and children age zero to two enrolled in the program. Enhanced school feeding programs in
01:27partnership with the Department of Health, the Department of Agriculture, and the Department of
01:31Social Welfare and Development. These efforts align with the goals of the Philippine Development Plan
01:37which aims to achieve zero hunger by 2028 as part of sustainable and inclusive growth. At the local
01:43level, the president urged the local chief executives to allocate sufficient funds for health
01:48and nutrition programs in their annual investment plans. I have directed the DILG to ensure that
01:54health care and nutrition are included as a priority indicator in our seal of good local
02:01governance. We're looking again at the criteria that is being examined when being when granting
02:07the seal of local government and I insisted that health care be part of that. The health care in
02:13terms of nutrition, health care in terms of vaccination, in terms of access to access to
02:20health services. These are the things that are very very important. President Marcus Jr. also
02:26emphasized that public health is not only dependent on proper nutrition but also on a
02:31clean environment, well-organized communities, and a disciplined way of life. From People's
02:36Television Network, Bernard Pereira, Balitang Pambansa.
