00:00The doors of this vet clinic are staying open.
00:05So what's going on with little JJ today?
00:08Vets and nurses have been preparing all week for Cyclone Alfred.
00:12We are anticipating being here the whole time, as long as it's safe to do so.
00:16There are backup generators ready to go, spare fuel and clean water.
00:21And if we lose power we'll power up our generators to keep those fridges running.
00:25And then what we've got over here is non-perishable items.
00:29So just snacks to keep the vets and the nurses fed.
00:33The clinic is expecting to treat some strays, but mostly injured wildlife during the storm.
00:39We see a lot of birds, but we see reptiles, we see possums, occasional koalas.
00:45And then we'll see everything from injuries to normal illnesses.
00:50If it's not safe to go home, this vet surgery is allowing people to camp beside their pets if they need to.
00:56They can put their pet to bed in one of these little enclosures, and they can actually stay with their pet.
01:02And we've had people stay overnight and sleep here on the floor.
01:06I think it's fantastic. I think it's really good, comforting to know that we can bring in our animals.
01:11This is our thing, and this is what we do well, and we're prepared to be here and help.
01:15As I said, the people and the pets of the Sunshine Coast, someone's got to look after them.
