00:00I'm standing here on the Orara Way Road which is just outside of Glenray and the Orara Valley
00:08here at Nana Glen.
00:10This road has been cut off by floodwaters just down there.
00:14Now this SES crew, they are responding to a welfare check for a family that's in the
00:20Glenray Valley.
00:22They have been unable to be contacted this week and so they're sending in this crew to
00:27go and try and make contact with them.
00:30The truck on the right made it through this first floodwater across the road but it wasn't
00:35until later further down the track that they weren't able to get through even deeper water.
00:39So what they've done is they've brought in a high rise vehicle to get the equipment and
00:46everything they need in order to go and check and make sure that those people who haven't
00:52been able to be contacted are okay.
00:54The river levels on the Orara River have been rising steadily over the last 24 hours.
01:00They peaked last night at 11 metres, the minimum major flood level is 5.4.
01:09So that just gives you an idea of how high the river levels are and what they're like
01:14over there.
01:15I'm just going to have a quick chat with Martin.
01:17Martin, just before you leave, what are you expecting to see on the other side?
01:23Yeah, we're not sure.
01:24The only information we have at the moment is this family hasn't been able to be contacted
01:27for over 24 hours now.
01:28Their family's quite concerned, their relatives, so we'll go and make sure they're okay and
01:32report back to them.
01:33Yeah, well stay safe and good luck.
01:37And that's why we are stressing the importance that people shouldn't drive through floodwaters
01:42unless you're the SES.
01:45They have the right equipment and personnel to be able to conduct those rescues appropriately
01:52And with the rain continuing to fall, and flood river levels continuing to rise, people
01:58just need to stay safe and keep across the Hazards Near Me app for updates, as well as
02:04the ABC's TV, online and radio channels.
