00:18Hamas confirmed that several talks have been held with the US on the ceasefire deal.
00:27The Liberal Party in Canada announced that the Liberal Mark Carney to succeed Prime Minister
00:32Justin Trudeau amid political chaos in the country.
00:41Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra García from Telesur Studios in
00:44Havana, Cuba.
00:45We begin with the news.
00:46The National Electoral Council of Honduras informed on Monday that around 2.3 million
01:04citizens equivalent to 40% of the electoral roll participated in the primary elections
01:10on Sunday, March 9.
01:11The president of the National Electoral Council, Cosette López, gave a report on the electoral
01:17process in which she said that despite some difficulties with the delivery of electoral
01:22material in some regions of the country, the electoral process took place peacefully.
01:27She indicated that the voting process suffered some inconveniences, however, she offered
01:33preliminary results with 50% of the votes counted, in which De Rixy Moncada, Salvador
01:39Nasralla and Nasri Asfura positioned as the favourites to advance to the general elections
01:45on November 30.
01:52When announcing the preliminary results of the primary elections in Honduras, the National
01:56Electoral Council of that country declared that the voting day was carried out peacefully
02:00in all regions, in spite of delays in the voting process.
02:08In compliance with the provisions of the electoral law of Honduras, the National Electoral
02:14Council has installed the public session for the disclosure of the results of the primary
02:19elections through the results transmission system.
02:23A day of voting has concluded which has passed, in spite of everything, in peace and with
02:28high participation.
02:31We face difficulties due to the distribution of the material in the municipalities of the
02:36Central District and San Pedro Sula.
02:39However, we overcame them and we wish to highlight the immense sense of commitment of the members
02:45of the voting stations, for awaiting the arrival of the material and of the voters to go and
02:51vote, who are still in our streets in long lines.
02:57The presidential candidates for the Liberty and Re-Foundation Party, Rixy Moncada and
03:02the Liberal Party, Salvador Nasralla, declared themselves as winners in their respective
03:06organizations after the National Electoral Council of Honduras informed that they are
03:11leading in the first partial count of the primary elections held this Sunday.
03:16Honduran President Xiomara Castro declared, a woman will hand over the presidential sack
03:22to another woman.
03:28In the middle of the press conference the candidate explained that she will initiate
03:32a new stage of dialogue and unity not only in the party but also with various sectors
03:36in the country.
03:41We are going to initiate a new stage, this new stage is the stage of construction of
03:46unity within the party after this day of competition, but it is also the stage of construction of
03:51unity at national level, of dialogue with all sectors to continue the process of re-foundation.
03:58We remind the bipartisan coup and retrograde bipartisanship that violence has no future,
04:04that in 2009, through a violent act, they removed a president and the people defeated
04:08him in the streets.
04:09In 2013 they committed fraud and we defeated them, in 2017 we defeated them, in 2021 we
04:16defeated them and again in 2025 we are going to defeat them.
04:22Also in Argentina, football fans will support mobilizations of the retirees to claim for
04:27their repair in their retirement pension and against Malay's government adjustment policies.
04:32Every Wednesday retired citizens claim their rights and protest against government policies.
04:37These demonstrations have been severely repressed by the federal police under orders from the
04:42Minister of Security Patricia Bullrich.
04:44What started as a gesture of solidarity from the Chacarita club fans turned into a self-convocation
04:51that promises to take the next mobilization to historic levels.
04:55The mobilization is scheduled for next Wednesday at 5pm at the front of the National Congress
05:00and has the support of leading figures of Argentine football and the best known teams.
05:14In Peru, firefighting crews tried to extinguish a fire that has been burning for six days
05:26in Lima.
05:27Brigadier Carlos Malpica of the General Volunteer Fire Department of Peru reported that the
05:33fire is 90% under control, stressing that work is continuing to get to the heart of
05:38the incident.
05:39He also said that seven buildings were affected and five had partially collapses and that
05:45the firefighting work has consumed two million gallons of water.
05:48The fire was originated six days ago in an unlicensed toy and packaged food store in
05:54a building.
05:55The sinister left 100 victims and 20 personnel affected by the smoke and toxic gases.
06:07In Costa Rica, the eruption of the Poas volcano caused the temporary closure of the national
06:12park surrounding the geological phenomenon in the northern province of Alajuela.
06:16After two constant eruptions in the crater's mouth and sea, which caused a 300-meter column
06:23of gases and particles, authorities decided to temporarily close the national park to
06:28protect visitors and staff working in it.
06:31Experts argue that the decrease in the level of the hyperacid lake in the crater enhances
06:38the existence of particles among the gases.
06:40The National Emergency Commission also urged authorities to intensify security actions
06:45and evaluate internal resources in case of an emergency situation.
06:55In Greece, a Mediterranean monk seal is ready to be released to wildlife after less than
07:00two months of being found orphaned and struggling for her life south of the country.
07:05The specimen, named Konstantina, is one of dozens of Mediterranean monk seals nursed
07:11back to health and released into the wild by Greece's MOM, a charity dedicated to care
07:17and protection of the rare marine mammal, whose population had dwindled to the point
07:23of facing extinction.
07:24For decades they were hunted, contributing to a major population decline that led the
07:29International Union for Conservation of Nature, IUCN, to list them as critically endangered.
07:36In recent years, the species climbed down on the IUCN's list of threatened species
07:43to endangered, and about a year ago improved one step further to vulnerable.
07:52And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at

08:25Welcome back to From the South.
08:37The Hamas-Palestinian resistance movement confirmed that several talks have been held
08:41with the US on the ceasefire deal in Qatar.
08:44The senior Hamas leader told the US delegation that they do not oppose the release of prisoners.
08:50Lately, Israel has reported to be preparing for negotiations, and that it sent Monday
08:55a delegation to Doha to discuss one on the deal.
08:58Overall, the conversations aimed at moving to the next stage of the deal, which could
09:03pave the way for ending the war.
09:05However, the first phase of the ceasefire deal ended last week.
09:09Since then, Israel has imposed a full siege on all humanitarian aid entered in Palestine.
09:14Israeli authorities announced Sunday night the total cessation of electricity supply
09:24to the Gaza Strip.
09:26After failing to comply with what was agreed in January, which established the advance
09:31towards the second phase of the ceasefire, Israel intends to worsen every day the humanitarian
09:36crisis that the people from Gaza are living.
09:38The interruption of the electricity supply seriously affects essential infrastructure
09:43in Gaza, including the few desalinization plants that have survived the bombardment
09:49and are crucial for access to drinking water.
09:52The country responds to an order from Israel's Minister of Energy and Mines Eli Cohen.
10:02In Palestine, the people of Gaza condemned Israel's decision to cut off the electricity
10:06supply in the territory.
10:08The event occurred on Sunday night after the Israeli State Minister of Energy Eli Cohen
10:14ordered the suspension of the electric power service in the Palestinian enclave.
10:18The announcement of the power cut coincides with the release of documents revealing that
10:23Zionist regime's intentions to intensify its illegal military operations in Gaza.
10:28Various humanitarian agencies have stated that the disruption of power supplies severely
10:34damages essential infrastructure in the territory and could have devastating consequences.
10:44Russia and the United States requested urgent closed-door consultations of the United Nations
10:48Security Council over violence against civilians in western Syria.
10:52Clashes between the Syrian terrorist government and supporters of former President Bashar
10:57al-Assad broke out on Thursday in the coastal area of Syria, causing a large number of dead
11:03and wounded.
11:04Also, the spokeswoman of the Russian foreign ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated that Moscow
11:10is alarmed by the sharp aggravation of the situation in the Arab country and that it
11:15is necessary to stop the bloodshed as soon as possible.
11:19In turn, the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, underlined that Washington
11:24condemns the radical Islamist terrorist who murdered people in western Syria.
11:33In the United States, the Secret Service reported that its agents shot an adult man who was
11:38armed outside the White House.
11:41According to the Secret Service communications director, they had received information about
11:46a suicidal individual who was traveling to Washington from Indiana.
11:50Minutes later, members of the Secret Service saw a person matching that description upon
11:56approaching the individual brandished a firearm and a confrontation ensued between the two
12:03parties.
12:04The man was taken to the hospital and his condition is unknown at this time while the
12:08Secret Service had no injuries among its personnel.
12:15In the United States, five people were injured after a small plane crashed into the parking
12:19lot of a retirement community in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
12:23The accident occurred at about 3.18 p.m. local time, when the plane, a single-engine Bridgecraft
12:31Bonanza, crashed into the Braden Village retirement community in Manhattan Township, said Scott
12:38Little, leader of the fire department, on Sunday night.
12:42He also detailed that five people aboard the aircraft were injured and were taken to local
12:46hospitals.
12:47About a dozen vehicles were damaged in the incident, while the building of the retirement
12:51center was not structurally damaged and no injuries were reported on the ground.

13:39In Canada, the Liberal Party announced that it can amaze the Mark Carney to succeed Prime
13:44Minister Justin Trudeau amid political chaos in the country.
13:47In the party's internal elections, Carney received a broad support of 85.9% of the party's
13:54membership.
13:55Carney will replace Trudeau, who announced his resignation last January, until a general
14:00election will be held.
14:02On March 24, the Canadian Parliament will resume its work and will have to give a vote
14:07of confidence to a new Prime Minister.
14:10The next parliamentary elections in Canada are scheduled for October 20, but it's suspected
14:15Carney could announce early elections.
14:17This transition comes amid trade differences between Washington and Ottawa.
14:27Greenland calls early parliamentary elections for March 11 amid political chaos.
14:33Since taking office six weeks ago, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed his
14:38interest in Greenland, rich in minerals and located along strategic sea lines and in the
14:44North Atlantic.
14:45According to a poll, 85% of Greenlanders do not want to be part of the United States,
14:51although the majority are in favour of independence.
14:54Amid concerns about foreign interference and demands that Greenlanders must control their
14:59own destiny, the island's Prime Minister, Mute Bodup Ejede, called early parliamentary
15:05elections for March 11.
15:09The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee closes annual
15:16sessions.
15:17The third session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative
15:21Conference, China's top political adversary body, held its closing meeting on Monday morning.
15:29Chinese President Xi Jinping and other leaders attended the meeting at the Great Hall of
15:33the People in Beijing.
15:35The meeting approved a series of documents, including a draft resolution on the work report
15:41of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee and a draft political resolution
15:47of the third session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee.
16:06In South Africa, artist James Delany has designed more than 100 sculptures for the wild parks
16:12in Johannesburg.
16:13Authorities in Johannesburg have encouraged public art to improve safety and environmental
16:17conditions in the city of some 6 million people, whose downtown has a reputation for crime
16:23and degradation.
16:24Delany first encountered the wilds as an overgrown desert park, and then he has repaired and
16:31painted benches, pruned plants and attracted volunteers and donors to help turn it into
16:37a bussing meeting point.
16:39His work strives to do something simpler for residents in a city where dirty, uninviting
16:44sidewalks and safety concerns make it rare for the average person to take a stroll.
16:51I found it the wilds and I spent a couple of years fixing the park and planting and
16:57weeding and restoring the infrastructure.
16:59We did a lot of work and we couldn't get people to go back and then I had this idea
17:04of making laser cut steel sculptures, first of a set of 67 owls and then later on the
17:11kudu and the giraffe and all those big pieces and it's that which turned the wilds around
17:17because those become draw cards and we live in an era now of the photograph, it's all
17:22about the photo that you take, particularly if you can be in the photograph and next to
17:26something which is a landmark and public art is a landmark.
17:32In Colombia, the discovery of a submerged castle dating from the 16th century is added
17:38today to the heritage assets treasured in the city of Cartagena.
17:42The discovery was made by a team of scientists from the Submerged Cultural Heritage Research
17:48Group of the General Maritime Directorate, who argued that the construction could be
17:53the fort of San Matias, a colonial structure more than 400 years old, hidden in the seabed.
18:00The building was part of the Spanish system of fortifications to protect the city from
18:05the constant attacks of corsairs and pirates.
18:09Researchers have no explanation as to why it sank six metres to the bottom of the bay.
18:18And like this, we have come to the end of this Brief, but you can find this and many
