00:00The two top squash players of the country, Jamaica Arribado and Raymarc Begornia,
00:05were chosen to represent the Philippines in the prestigious 2028 Los Angeles Olympics,
00:10but on one condition.
00:12And what is it? Let's find out in my report.
00:18The two top squash players of the country, Jamaica Arribado and Raymarc Begornia,
00:25were chosen to represent the Philippines in the prestigious 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
00:33This is the first time a squash sport has been played in the Olympics.
00:37That's why the Filipino squash players are eager to raise their PSA World Rankings,
00:43which is one of the requirements to get an Olympic slot pocket.
00:48During the Philippine Satellite Squash Tour,
00:51the two squash players reached the finals match,
00:54where Arribado was crowned champion in women's singles,
00:58while Begornia was crowned silver in the men's individual category.
01:02It's a good thing that we have a tournament where you can get a ranking point,
01:08so you can get a chance to go to the Olympics.
01:13Of course, if the country can afford it, why not?
01:17All the tournaments and training that we do, we really put a lot of effort into it.
01:25So, in the 2028 Olympics, I hope we can do it.
01:32With the help of their foreign head coach and former World No. 5 Malaysian squash player, Wevern Low,
01:38the Filipino squash players will go far.
01:41That's why in the PTV Sports interview,
01:43he shared his programs and plans for the Philippine squash team until the 2028 Olympic Games.
01:51The big goal for every athlete's dream is to qualify for LA 2018,
01:54especially for squash players.
01:56It's the first time that squash has ever been in the Olympics.
01:59So, it's every athlete's dream to be a part of something like that.
02:03And of course, leading up to that, there will be many years of preparation.
02:07It takes a lot longer than four years to qualify for the Olympics,
02:10but we have to start somewhere.
02:12So, I mean, I've been here just over a year now.
02:14So, we have established a good training ground,
02:17the understanding within the players, the training plan.
02:20So, we have sort of things in place at this point in time.
02:23Last year was a bit more of getting them used to training schedules, tournament schedules, and things like that.
02:29So, this year, we should look at more specific planning and picking the tournaments
02:35so that they can peak at the correct time.
02:38Aside from Arribado and Bigornia,
02:40one of the National Squash Team coaches that can compete for the upcoming Los Angeles Olympics
02:46are the top junior squash players of the Philippines, Jonathan Reyes and Christopher Buraga.
