China's defense ministry has issued a new warning to Taiwan against what Beijing calls separatism at the country's annual Two Sessions political meeting. The ministry says it's a force to promote "reunification" with Taiwan.

00:00While Beijing's main focus at the moment is how to stop its economic slowdown, it's
00:06also talking Taiwan, both carrots and sticks. While Taiwan says only its 23 million people
00:13can decide its future, China's military says it is a force to promote unification between
00:19the two sides, and had a warning to Taiwan's ruling party.
00:24The more excited the Taiwanese are, the tighter the rope around their necks will be, and the
00:29sharper the sword on their heads will be. We are calling on the DPP authorities to turn
00:35their backs to the cause, to be persistent, and to die for the cause.
00:41Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council said they had no comment on the spokesperson's words.
00:47The warning and even the colourful language from Beijing isn't new, but it comes as China
00:52says it wants to attract Taiwanese investment and workers. Again, not a new approach, but
00:59one it hopes will lead to a more positive view of Beijing among Taiwanese.
