ANDY PANAYI
A jazz soloist of stunning fire and invention, Andy Panayi is revered by his peers for his exceptional musicianship and virtuosity. Mastery of all saxophones and flutes has seen him appear alongside such jazz greats as Dollar Brand, Louie Bellson, Freddie Hubbard & Wynton Marsalis and legendary singing stars including Shirley Bassey, Elaine Delmar, Elaine Paige & Jessye Norman. Tonight’s concert offers a rare opportunity to hear him fronting a conventional piano bass drums rhythm section in a free-wheeling programme of classic jazz standards

SIMON WOOLF
Simon Woolf made his debut on the London stage as a boy soprano appearing and recording alongside Joan Sutherland, Janet Baker and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. While studying Music at York University under Wilfred Mellors he moved down a few octaves fulfilling a childhood ambition by taking up the double bass. Known for his lyrical solos he has in recent years toured with such leading American soloists as Harry Allen, Howard Alden, Chris Cheek and Grant Stewart. These days he is more often found at the piano and it is here you will see him for tonight’s concert for which he has also provided arrangements and the occasional composition.

DAVID CHAMBERLAIN
Dave Chamberlain, a former student of Simon Woolf is a bassist of rare breadth and accomplishment. On the side he is also a fine jazz guitarist and practicing lawyer and is currently devoting any spare time to mastering the viola.

MARK TAYLOR
Drummer of choice to some of the great names of jazz, Monty Alexander and George Coleman to name but two, it’s a thrill to have Mark Taylor, recently returned from the Big Apple, join us.
