Eight-year-old powerhouse from Saundersfoot - Wilson Mills McBeth continues to raise awareness of Down Syndrome in his own unique style, and has now been selected to stand with and promote ‘Project Empowerment’ - a first of its kind campaign in the UK.
Over the past few years, Wilson has inspired many with his campaigning, both locally and nationally, and most noticeably through the ‘Rock Your Socks’ campaign to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day on March 21.
Wilson is a footballer, skater, surfer-in-training, and signed model with Zebedee. He’s using his growing social media presence to raise awareness, sell socks, and change perceptions—because Down syndrome doesn’t define him or what he can achieve!

Now Wilson has been been selected to participate in a very exciting opportunity created by ‘Stand Out Socks’ - as featured on BBC’s Dragons Den - and raise funds for a charity close to his heart.
‘Project Empowerment’ gives individuals the chance to kick-start their entrepreneurial journey, gain valuable skills, and boost their prospects, all while raising awareness for World Down Syndrome Day on March 21, which millions of people across the world come together to celebrate, and to help raise awareness, they wear brightly coloured often mismatched socks because chromosomes are shaped like socks — and people with Down syndrome have an extra copy of chromosome 21.
“Over several years, I have raised lots of money for many different charities and have got people talking about Down Syndrome by holding various local fundraising events and through my Facebook & Instagram page @wilsonprettyflyforasmallguy,” explained Wilson.
“I’m just a little boy trying to make a big difference; and with my brothers on board and World Down Syndrome Day just around the corner we are doing it all again!
“I have been gifted 100 pairs of brightly coloured socks to sell in the community, online and through my social media pages.
Wilson says that ‘Project Empowerment’ gives a chance to kick-start a mini entrepreneurial journey as a family, who hope to gain valuable skills, learn what’s it’s like to run a business and raise money for their chosen charity - The Pembrokeshire Siblings Group - which supports siblings of disabled or seriously ill children.
This charity provides respite through days out and residential breaks, helping young carers enjoy childhood and connect with peers. Volunteers run activities for children aged 7-18, ensuring they have a support system and moments to look forward to.
“We have created posters, made and handed out flyers and built a stall - so are now ready to get selling!” he explained.
The socks are £4 for a child and £7.50 for an adult pair - with several bright styles to choose from.
