00:00So, Britain's worst performing stations by percentage of cancelled trains have been revealed.
00:09Ince and Elton station in Cheshire was found to be the worst performing station, followed
00:14then by Gathurst and then Earlswood station in Surrey. In fourth place was Birchgrove
00:19station, then Rubina station. It was then Whitchurch in Cardiff, then Salford station
00:25in Surrey. Then following that came Arram station, Hartlepool station and then Ellesmere
00:30port. This information covers the period between January 5th and the 1st of February.
00:36Whilst the data covers the whole of England, Scotland and Wales, the Department for Transport
00:41only has the power to display it in English stations. Train operators have since said
00:46that cancellations are not always in their control and that the data from the Office
00:50of Rail and Road does not reflect cases when operators plug a gap in their services with
00:56another train. On the other hand, data has also revealed
00:59stations which had no cancellations over a four week period. Of the over 18,000 stations
01:05across the UK, only 33 stations had no cancellations. Buckingham in Norfolk was the only station
01:12to achieve a perfect score. It was reported that Buckingham station had no cancellations
01:18or unscheduled stops and that all trains arrived on time or within three minutes. It's
01:23worth adding that only 100 trains stopped at this station within the month. Director
01:29of the Independent Passenger Watchdog, Transport Focus, said that the railway must rebuild
01:35trust and that transparency around cancellations was part of that. A spokesperson for the Rail
01:40Delivery Group said that this move shows how serious the industry is about putting things
01:46right for customers frustrated by cancellations and delays. It's been reported that the government
01:53said Rail Minister Lord Hendy will be meeting with all train operators to address concerns
01:59and demand immediate action. This comes as rail passengers in England and Wales are set
02:05to face a steep increase in rail travel. Fares are rising by 4.6% and most rail cards are
02:11going up by £5. The government said this rise is needed due to the dire financial
02:15state of the railway. Other rail fares in the capital are also set to match this national
02:20rise going up by the average of 4.6% across the network although bus fares will be frozen.
