Balochistan, Pakistan – A group of armed militants from the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) hijacked the Jaffar Express train in Pakistan’s Balochistan province on March 11, 2025. The train, carrying approximately 500 passengers, was traveling from Quetta to Peshawar when it was ambushed in a remote tunnel in the Bolan district.
According to reports, the attackers detonated explosives on the tracks, forcing the train to stop before opening fire, injuring the driver. The BLA later claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that they had taken 182 hostages, including military and police personnel, and claimed to have killed 20 military officers. The group has threatened to execute hostages if security forces intervene.
While the Balochistan government has denied that military personnel were on board, sources suggest that over 150 security officials were among the passengers.
Rescue operations have been hampered by the rugged terrain and poor communication networks in the area. The attack is the latest in a series of escalating militant activities in Balochistan, where separatist groups have been targeting infrastructure and security forces in recent years.
