00:00Maria Beatriz Patis Pamintuan Tasoro is a Filipino artist, a fashion designer, social activist, heritage conservationist, and serial entrepreneur.

00:12She is also a lifestyle icon.

00:14She is also known as the Grand Dame of the Philippine fashion.

00:19She is known for making the Barrot Saya part of modern life through the use of traditional fabrics and hand embroidery.

00:29She also accompanied her own design.

00:31And now, Audrey, her book, Patis Tasoro, is about to be released.

00:38And to know more details about this book, we will be joined by Ma'am Patis Tasoro.

00:44Good morning and welcome to Rise and Shine Philippines, Ma'am.

00:51Ma'am, can you give us a glimpse of what you will see or read in your book, Filipiniana is Forever?

01:02I made this book.

01:08It is a research book of what I have done for five decades in my life.

01:16I decided to publish 408 pages of my work and my achievements in life to be a research book for Filipinos here and abroad,

01:35and also for all the other countries to see how we live in our everyday life, in costume.

01:46Well, I shouldn't say costume, in our clothes.

01:50We are known for embellishment.

01:53And that embellishment is hand embroidery, machine embroidery, calado, abubot.

02:01We are known for abubot, no?

02:04So we must not lose that.

02:06So this book is a research book, frankly, for the generations of Filipinos to come.

02:22This is my second book.

02:24The first book is called The Art of Philippine Embellishment.

02:29And that was done about maybe 20, 25 years ago.

02:33There are no more copies available.

02:36You can see it maybe in libraries.

02:40This book is more heavy. It's actually 4 kilos.

02:45Very heavy.

02:47But it is...

02:50How will you say this?

02:52It's really a research book for Filipinos today and for the future.

02:59That we must never lose our identity as a people in dress.

03:07I'm talking specifically in dress.

03:10It has morphed into a more comfortable way of dressing, more with pantalon,

03:18or more comfortable because people work very hard today.

03:24It's not like before where you prepare for an event, no?

03:29Today people are working and then they have to go to a party or a celebration.

03:35So it's a different lifestyle.

03:37So we have to make our national dress to fit this lifestyle.

03:43And that is what I have been doing for the past 15 years.
