During Wednesday's Oval Office meeting with Ireland's Taoiseach Micheál Martin, President Trump answered questions about US trade with Ireland.

00:00Will you get more tariffs from the EU?
00:02Will you respond to their retaliation?
00:05Of course I'm going to respond.
00:07You will retaliate with more tariffs?
00:08The problem is our country didn't respond.
00:10Look, the EU was set up in order to take advantage of the United States.
00:15Including Ireland?
00:16Is Ireland taking advantage of the U.S.?
00:18Of course they are.
00:19I can't, you know, I have great respect for Ireland and what they did.
00:23And they should have done just what they did.
00:25But the United States shouldn't have let it happen.
00:27We had stupid leaders.
00:29We had leaders that didn't have a clue.
00:30Or let's say they weren't business people, but they didn't have a clue what was happening.
00:34And all of a sudden, Ireland has, you know, our pharmaceutical companies and other.
00:39This beautiful island of, it's Ireland, of 5 million people, it's got the entire U.S.
00:46pharmaceutical industry in its grasp.
00:51And you know, you mentioned housing and you mentioned other things.
00:53I mean, I have property in Ireland, as you know, and I love it.
00:57It does great.
00:59But I'd like to have, I'd like to see the United States not have been so stupid for
01:04so many years.
01:05Not just with Ireland, with everybody.
01:08You know, I looked at trade deals.
01:09I was telling the group yesterday, I looked at trade deals in term one.
01:14It's one of the reasons I decided I had to do this, because somebody had to straighten
01:18it out and I didn't see anybody that was going to.
01:21I looked at trade deals that were so bad, I'd actually say, how is it possible that
01:26this could have happened?
01:27Who would have been so stupid to let these deals happen?
01:30For instance, when the pharmaceutical company started to go to Ireland, I would have said,
01:37that's okay if you want to go to Ireland.
01:38I think it's great.
01:39But if you want to sell anything into the United States, I'm going to put a 200 percent
01:45tariff on you.
01:46So you're never going to be able to sell anything into the United States.
01:49You know what they would have done?
01:51They would have stayed here.
01:52Are you planning to lower your taxes?
01:54He's so lucky that I wasn't.
01:56Are you planning to lower taxes?
