The Philippines' former leader Rodrigo Duterte has been served an Interpol arrest warrant on his arrival from Hong Kong at Manila's main airport and is in custody, the office of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr said in a statement

The ICC took aim on the Philippine's War on Drugs, carried out by Duterte until his term ended in 2022. He advocated a full-scale fight against drug addiction, as well as against drug dealers.

The campaign was criticised by human rights monitors saying the government carried out extrajudicial killings.

Over 6,000 people involved in the drug trade were reportedly killed during the years-long operation.
